Steven Gerrard leaving liverpool interview :(

Hes a hypocrite

Last season he said he would retire at Liverpool and never play for anyone else

Now because Rodgers wants to rest him for some games hes leaving

I'm no Stevie G fan but surely a guy can change his mind ? Maybe he didn't realise how quickly his body would get old ?

Either way I think hes earned the right to change his mind.

Just about every newspaper and footy website.

He's been offered a $6 million (3.9 million) pound contract a year for 18 months.

Still less than Dempsey, Bradley and Defoe then?

"US international Clint Dempsey was the highest paid player in MLS in 2014, earning £4.3m ($6.69m). Dempsey's countryman Michael Bradley was second at £4.2m ($6.5m). Four former Premier League stars were among the biggest earners in the league: Jermain Defoe, third, £4m ($6.18m); Robbie Keane, fifth, £2.9m ($4.5m); Thierry Henry, sixth, £2.8m ($4.35m); and Tim Cahill seventh, £2.3m ($3.63m)."

Still...75k a week isn't too shabby but as others have mentioned it's probably the best balance of money/lifestyle/chance of success etc.

Its likely that the £75k is a basic wage and like Kaka he'll have other commercial related incentives that boost that up past those.

It's still however going to be a fair bit less than he gets at Liverpool or could have got elsewhere.

£75k a week...

Not sure why so many people are struggling with the concept that he just wants to be a starter for a team that won't ever face Liverpool.

He never had those thoughts when he was bailing to go to chelsea. Unless he thought Liverpool would get relegated without him so wouldn't face them ;)

Not really. He considered leaving and had he did, he would have gone against what Pigeon mentioned. But he didn't/couldn't go through with it.

One thing with Gerrard is that he's always been very insecure (that's what led to the Chelsea saga in 2005) and it seems obvious to me that he's simply struggling with not being as important as he was but equally accepts that he's not capable of being that player either.

I know we all love conspiracy theories, not least Everton fans, but I really do think this is as simple as has been said. Not only could he have earned more money by moving to the Middle East but I'd be extremely surprised if the offer he got from Liverpool (or another European club) was for much less than what he'll get in the US.

A move to the US seems the perfect compromise. He's not ready to retire but doesn't want to damage his standing among Liverpool supporters by becoming a bit part player or playing against them. Throw in the lifestyle and a decent wage and it seems fairly straight forward.

Insecure? He wanted to leave because he wanted more success and to win things. His words and the words of Parry.

Why the dig at Everton fans and conspiracy theories, we get this bitter stuff all the time yet none on here are rushing in at any time to post the lol's any time things go wrong at Liverpool. My point was simply I think it's a bit rich to think he wouldn't want to pull on a shirt against liverpool when he was quite prepared to walk away to win things at another English club even just after winning the champions league and the postive emotions after such a success.

Going to the middle east isn't really a similar comparison and lifestyle America.

Good for both Liverpool and Gerrard really - for the club if he's only going to play here and there it makes a lot of sense to get one of of the top earners off the books and for him heading to the States is a no-brainer - spend the last couple years of your career getting a good payday and great lifestyle assuming he hasn't hoovered his EPL pay up his nose or gambled it all away :p

really you know that for sure because there are plenty of rumours saying he is being pushed out by showing him a **** contract

If he wanted to win the league that badly he would have left for a better team, like Shearer could have gone to Man U and would have won lots more.
It's funny when people post these pics of trivial players with Premiership medals but who's going to be remembered in 20 years time, Gerrard or [Insert player name here]?

Read the quotes from Gerrard. He was set to sign after the CL final but the weeks after changed that. What happened in those weeks? Liverpool didn't put the contract on the table for him to sign and he convinced himself that he wasn't wanted.

The day later when he changed his mind Parry said as much himself and I later read an autobiography from Liverpool's chief accountant at the time and he confirmed as much. Gerrard expected the contract on the table the day after the CL final but Parry, the only person at the time who could authorise anything, went on holiday and couldn't be contacted. The accountant mentioned the panic around the club when it became clear Gerrard was getting itchy feet and how Benitez had to have a meeting with him to try to convince him the club weren't trying to sell him behind his back - with everybody frantically trying to contact Parry without any luck.

Carra wrote an article the other day and he mentioned Gerrard's insecurities in it. He even said Gerrard was worried about his role when the club signed Adam and Henderson.

As for the Everton comment, that's because it was them that created the death threats myth (as to why he changed his mind), claimed Agger had actually failed a drugs test in 2007(?) when he was out with a broken foot and many many more.
