Lately I've been considering a jump up in graphics card. I already have a pretty decent 7870 but I just feel like my frames are a little low a times.

I'm tempted by all the nvidia cards but are they good enough to warrant the price and the swap? Also I hate catalyst control centre so unless its a really good card I would prefer to leave amd cards alone

Thanks :)

Hi,

Well it depends on a few things like what resolution you are playing at, budget and the spec of your current setup.

Ideally you would be looking at a min of a GTX780 or an r9 290.

What is it about Catalyst that annoys you?

Like above you could crossfire a couple of 7870/270x for a jump in performance. Not sure how much of a boost you would get from the Green team unless you went to 780/ti level depends on the budget though I suppose.

Both sides have good options though

I had considered xfire but i prefer one good card over two not running at full... catalyst annoys me because it has a mind of its own and the driver issues so far have driven me crazy :P
and i wish i had the money for a 780ti but unfortunately i don't :P i was thinking around 300 for a new card

If you want to move to the Nvidia side I would hold off and save a little more so you can get a 780 at least. I don't think you would see enough of an increase on your current card for the Nvidia stuff under £300 i.e. 770.

okay that makes sense, thanks very much for your help :)

No problem, I must admit though there may be others with more experience in Nvidia cards that will give better advice. I just wouldn't upgrade for the gains you would see going 7870 to 670/770/680. I was in a similar boat and made sure that I could jump from my old 7850 to a 290 so I saw a nice increase.
