I understand I'm very late in discovering this, but after seeing them on Netflix I thought I'd give it a go.

I lived in Scotland for a while and I have Scottish friends so the language isn't too hard for me to understand, but I do appreciate some Southern English folk may struggle.

All I can say is that its actually one of the greatest things I've ever seen. It's had me in tears laughing. The dialogue and some of the slapstick comedy moments are just fantastic. Any scene with Winston in is almost guaranteed to be funny.

It also has some really nice emotional touches, but just when you are getting a bit teary eyed it hits you with another punchline and brings you back up again.

Genius show.

I expect a divide between Scottish people loving it and English people thinking it was crap.

I loved this show, and I aint Scottish... I agree with everything you say about it.

I may just have to grab the DVD box set.

edit.. out of 621 Amazon reviews 589 are five star with only seven at three star and none below... so that says something :)

When Winston gets attacked by a "devil dog" and is explaining fighting it off I couldn't control my laughter. Was one of funniest things I've seen in years.

Be great to see it make a come back, i randomly found it years ago on YouTube with some of the "big man" vids which led me to chewing the fat then to still game. One of the best comedies ever imo, love to see it make a comeback.

I've watched more and been more impressed. It really touches on some nice things too. The bond they have in their friendship is brilliant when they go for a 60th anniversary meal in town. Just a really nice show.

You should watch from the first season, it really is an excellent show.

I got an American 'friend' to watch it with me once. She could not understand it all, and even when I put subtitles on she still had a blank expression on her face.

Easily my favorite comedy.

Yanks cant understand proper comedy though...

on explaining how he managed to get the devil dug off him:

Winston said:
... It spotted a wee dug and went away and pumped it

:D :D

I'm gonna watch even more tonight. I'm on series 3 already I think. Winston is in most of my favourite scenes and Navid also comes out with some absolute classics.

I also love every time they enter The Clansman and have a snipe at Bobby.

spoken to gavin mitchell (boaby the bar man) a few times about when the new series is starting. He just wont give any info. such a nice guy to talk to even when you think he would get sick of people coming up to him and saying lines from the show, he comes right back at them with the next line.

Absolutely love the show, not really sure it needs to come back though. The final season was pretty hit and miss and the run at the Hydro spawned a truly awful DVD that had all the hallmarks of a series that had ran its course.

One of my all time favourite shows, shame that they stopped it for a few years.

The tour they did a couple years back was quite good also (Pretty sure this one is not in the DVD set unless they have released a new one)

The last season or so was more down to them having a lot of things going on in their production company which ultimately led to the split up. It could still do well as a series.

I'm English but I lived in Scotland for a number of years, so the humour brings back fond memories for me. It's a wonderfully gentle and warm comedy, with a great mix of light and dark. The quality did tail off quite a bit in the last series, but in its prime it was one of the best things on TV. The box set is well worth it if you can find it for a good price.

It doesn't but I'm still always craving more still game.
