Still having a lock up issue....

I used to get this issue where my pc would just randomly turn off and restart....it happened mostly in games but also happened while surfing the internet and things like that.
I bought an overclocked bundle which included a cpu, motherboard and ram and the problem seemed to have been fixed and it didn't happen any more and my pc was fine. The last few weeks or so my pc will just lockup and freeze and i have to do a hard reset. it doesn't restart like it used too though now the screen just freezes.

I thought the overclocked bundle fixed the issue but its just frustrating me now. Does this mean its a PSU problem? Why did it seem to work for a while then suddenly start happening again?

I have a crossfire 5870 setup too.

under the error log its a Kernal-power event id 41. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Can we have full specs of system please?- particularly interested in the PSU brand and wattage

Remove the overclock for now and run at default with normal use to pin point the cause as PSU (you just ever know)

sure the cards are 5870 x 2
Psu = Arctic pro 950 watts
its the Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ 4.40GHz DDR3 Ivybridge Overclocked Bundle.
Gigabyte GA Z77 D3H motherboard

8gb of ram

Would it be a loose lead that could cause that? or most likely a hardware fault?
I really thought it was fixed after i got the new bundle but its started happening again except this time it doesnt restart..the screen just locks up and the light on my mouse dock goes out and i cant do anything but a hard reset.

Also i would like to add when i was playing bioshock i would get get the lockup issue aswell....And sometimes when it locked up a fan would start spinning at max revs and being really loud... iv checked all the temps and there all normal so its not a temp problem. So what does that mean?

Any more advice with this?

I was playing bioshock and it did the same again where it freezes and one of the fans go really loud... I took the side of the case of when this happened and its the top graphics card where the fan will just go max as soon as it locks up.
The strange thing is the temps are fine...It went to about 70 at the most.

Could potentially be a GPU issue, lockups can be a hard thing to diagnose. Have a good look through the event logs at the time of the lockup, sometimes this can be a good indicator as you'd most likely have a driver error.

As you have pointed out it could also be a overclock/PSU issue, those would most likely leave no clue within the event logs.

So have a look through and see if anything is there, if nothing I'd suggest trying to run your CPU at stock.

I did a fresh install yeah....
What kind of gpu issue could it be? it only seems to happen on bioshock really.
It just freezes up the fan on gpu 1 suddenly goes max then i have to do a hard reset. The temps are normal though so its not a temp issue. Could it just be a fault with the gpu causing this?

Seems to be happening on other games aswell now.... It just freezes..but this time i could still hear the sound playing...and the GPU fan goes to max...But the temps are fine when i look.

Any advice with this? Since i already got a new MB cpu and ram combo from here i really dont want to go out and get a new graphics card if thats not the issue....But because the card number 1 fan spins to max when this happenes i feel as though i might have too and with new 8000 series cards on the horizon i don't really want to change yet.
Plus could it be a PSU problem instead?

have you set the cpu/pcie clock to 100
and vcore voltage response to fast, set pwm phase control to extreme too

enabled x.m.p profile 1 for your memory? might need 1.06v qpi/vtt(cpu/vtt)

I havent changed a thing in bios... Its an overclocked Bundle from here and as i understand if you mess with any of the settings on the overclock it voids the warrenty?

I shouldn't think i would need to alter anything with that since overclockers test it before they ship them out.

I would speak to ocuk then and see what they suggest,im guessing a setting isn't quite right

or you could need the latest bios idk,but flashing the bios would reset the oc

Yeah i got in touch with OCUK and they suggested to just take the overclock off for now and run it for a while to see if it still crashes and if its okay i would need to alter the overclock a little.
So far its been okay since i did that but i guess i should give it a couple of days to make sure.

Still no freezes yet since i took the overclock off yesterday...

Does this mean that its most likely the overclock thats caused the system freezes in games? I would have thought since there bundles are stress tested it would be okay but i guess it also depends on the rest of your components?
Why would that cause the GPU fan to start spinning at max when it locks up?
Should i alter the overclock myself or wait till tomorrow and get in touch with OCUK since its there bundle that i bought and let them decide what settings to alter....

restore the oc,but try with

set the cpu/pcie clock to 100
and vcore voltage response to fast, set pwm phase control to extreme too

enabled x.m.p profile 1 for your memory? might need 1.06v qpi/vtt(cpu/vtt)

Those settings were already on with the Overclock...
I spoke to the OCUK guy and he said put the CPU Vcore to 1.30 volts..It was set at 1.285

And set Tras to 30 since it was set to 28 and see if it makes any difference.

Is this a CPU overclock issue...i really can't be sure...
I was just playing bioshock and this time it goes off... the fan on the top GPU goes to max and my computer monitor goes off and into standby... Does that sound like a CPU overclock issue? or something else.

Still getting this problem and its getting very frustrating...Im going to guess its an overclock issue because sometimes when it happenes it resets bios to default settings so i presume that means its the overclock? its supposed to be a safe 4.4 overclock but it even does it at 4.1.
If i need to up the voltage what is a safe voltage to take it too?

To put it bluntly I think your Arctic Pro PSU is a bit naff buddy. How much did you pay for it? That's often a good sign of the quality ;)

It's most likely this that is causing your problem. Keep in mind you are running two GPUs and asking to overclock the system aswell. Keep the system at stock till you can replace the PSU. Also the Z77-D3H isn't really ideal for a Xfire setup as the PCI-E lanes don't run in sync.

Once you replace the PSU with a better unit you can start overclocking again......

Nice little guide there for you to watch over a cuppa :)
