Hi there.

I posted a couple of weeks ago aboutmy diesel which smokes like a London bus when I put my foot down.

As suggested I've used that stuff you add to the fuel tank. Twice. It's not made any difference.

I looked at the air filter. It was a little dusty, but not terrible.

I have an extended warranty. is this something I can get them to look at under this warranty? The warranty ends in September so I might as well if it's covered, no?

Thanks

James

My boss's Audio doesn't smoke when he's going 120...

Audi?

All Diesels smoke - some are cleaner than others though.

I presume it goes ok? Doesn't feel flat?

his is an Audi. Mine isn't though.

Feels fine. Just a bit embarrassing that when I put my foot down, I leave a trail behind me like the Roadrunner

Kindof. Even though, I would have thought it wouldn't be this bad.

No kindof at all - it's a pickup - a van with an open rear. It's a commercial vehicle so it won't have a nice smooth refined turbodiesel engine like your mates Audi.

It's ok, its not for posing in anyway, its for delivering bags of cement.

If we could see it - we could tell you whether it's normal or not.

Best bet really is to get someone who knows the vehicle to follow you and give you an informed opinion. Providing he can actually see you through the clouds of soot that is... :D

Personally I'd take it to a Mitsi dealer and get one of their engineers to follow you.

Thanks. Is it something that would be covered under the warranty?

Didn't you say it had been chipped?

In which case, no it isn't, as the chipping is probably a big contribution.

Oh. I don't really even know what that means (the chipping). The warranty is newer than the "chip" so therefore, to me, Mitsubishi are warrantying the chip also?

If it's smoking excessively (and I stress excessively - as in abnormal for that vehicle) - there will be a reason for it and hopefully yes the warranty will pick up the bill to rectify.

Warranties though can be tricky. If it's an underwritten warranty - it may only cover actual failed parts (failed meaning total sudden and unforseen failure). Now if the part in question is just wearing out per se - that's not failure.

A manufacturers warranty though will almost certainly pick up the repair cost no problem at all.
