Stockton

I lived in Stockton for a few years it wasn't so bad... Never had any issues, used to commute to Darlington.

I used to live over the road from that north shore academy place before it was built so not sure if that has pulled the area down or up. That said though there were some dire areas surrounding my little pocket of okness

Yep, me and a mate used to work there and travel from Stokesley every day. We used to go and sit in the center at lunch time and marvel at the array of strange characters about. Its no coincidence that the half of Vic and Bobs characters were based on Darlo folk. The Brothers Stot, you could often see walking round, one had a real stuffed dog held together with orange charlie band

Lol we did :D

Darlo is a wierdo magnet, Stockton is not a market town and is an absolute dump

As others have said, some of the smaller market towns / villages are where I personally would be looking

Ingleby Barwick (largest housing estate in Europe) has is OK bits and some no so, as with most places

Sorry, no. Used to hang around with some friends from there and drink in the two pubs on the estate now and then but it was years ago.

I do drive through it now and then when up visiting family but I don't live round there anymore

Take a look at some of the properties in local estate agents (I think there are one or two on the estate) and you should get a decent idea of certain roads / streets / areas are better than others

If possible then go and have a drive round

I'd personally be looking at other places as well for a comparison of what you can get for your money / the general area for a similar commute

I don't suppose you know which of the Ingleby bits are OK/not so OK?

They are all pretty much the same. Lowfields and Beckfields are the 'older' parts, Sober Hall, The Rings and Broom Hill are newer IIRC.

I'd say the rings and sober hall are nicer but the other parts are not rough.

I lived in Sober Hall, but moved to Marton about 5 yrs ago. The Fox Covert pub about 5 mins walk from Sober Hall does a fantastic Parmo :)

Best parmo is from Express Pizzeria on Norton High Street. They also do the best garlic dip.

I live 16 miles away but still make this my choice destination for parmo on the odd occasion I have one.

If you are looking at ingelby then consider the commute.

The roads around there really are at breaking point so i imagine it would become annoying really quickly if you worked regular hours eg 9-5

If i was on my own I would be looking at any of the many quaint villages or a maybe even a yarm flat if more outgoing . But with family/kids then Fairfield , eaglescliffe, Norton are nice enough and cheap

The whole Teesside area gets a load of stick but it's cheap , people are friendly and the surrounding areas are incredible

I know Wynyard was brought up quite early, but its also worth checking if there's anything suitable available in Wolviston - its a nice enough village between the A689/A19 junction and Billingham and you'd be on a sub 10mins commute to North Tees traffic pending, decent weather its very commutable by bike and a nice ride down Wynyard/Durham road, which I would seriously consider doing if you need to commute at rush hours, school run hours or plan to park a car at North Tees, which is a complete nightmare to get to from any direction at these times by car.

For proper parmos in Newcastle try Toros and pizza and co. They are just as good as Middlesbrough ones and I've had my fair share lol.

Yarm is nice not sure about the people there!

I've added it to the to-do list, thanks!

I live in Norton nice place

Any areas to avoid?

Appreciate that, thanks. I commute from Jesmond to Sunderland at the moment, 40 mins average so as long as it's under that I'm happy

Great, thanks, I'll have a look. I'm hoping we'll get a staff parking space...

You star, I haven't tried these. I'll get one on Thursday

Its genuinely insane what you can get for your money up north, or maybe its the other way round and what you have to settle for in the south-east is out of whack, but for what I'm looking at spending on a two bedroom flat I could get a 4 bed 2 bath property with a double garage.

Indeed, a couple on 30k a year each up here can live quite a luxurious life, you often hear "but there aren't many well paying jobs up North", yet all the new builds at 200-300k are snapped up right away. My town is an ex-mining one and there are plenty of 400k+ houses that go within days of being put on the market. The simple matter is you don't need to be slaving away 40-60hrs in the city with 2 hour daily commutes to afford a very nice home here, you can live very comfortably on the UK average salary.

I'd check with them to confirm, but the last time I talked to my son's paediatrician there in the car park (I managed to park up next to them) they didn't have a staff space so had to pay to park with us peasants instead. There is a marked off consultants parking area but I get the feeling that its for management and top specialists etc. There are a couple of 'private' car parks around the site, the one across the road is £2 all day, but the main one is covered by parking eye or someone similar now and costs £3 for 12 hours, £6 for 24 or you can get a 28 day pass for £10, so its not the end of the world if you're there most days.

I might add make sure you have coins for parking fees or use the app to pay for parking because I've only found one payment machine that accepts notes or cards and its always out of order, there is a payment office open in office hours that will change notes for you, but no change machine on site either.
