So I bought something off ebay to the value of around £100 (motherboard bundle for one of my kids) and I assumed it would require a signature like 99% of the other expensive parcels I've had delivered. After some length of time of no sign of delivery, I decided to check ebay and it said the parcel had been delivered and left in a safe place and a card posted. I looked on royalmail website and there's a picture of the parcel left on my doorstep. They never rang the bell, just dumped it, snapped a pic and gone. Didnt even leave a card either. This was at 11.30 sat and I'm assuming they was in a hurry to get everything posted so they can clock off and go home. I've certainly never had a parcel delivered by royal mail after 12 on a sat before.

Now the problem is, I live on a busy 4 lane dual carriageway and there's multiple carehomes just a few doors away in both directions, plus its a main route to get from 1 Town to another, so obviously there's lots of people walking past and cars queuing in traffic outside my house. I've contacted the seller and they're of no help, so I contact ebay and they say to contact royalmail and have a good look around and if no luck, ask them (ebay) for help. I have spoken to someone at royalmail but they wasn't much help either.

The part where I need help is convincing ebay to refund me rather than just tell me to sort it out with Royal mail. IMO it's the sellers responsibility to sort this out with royalmail. They agreed to the terms, they decided to include insurance or not, they picked the wrong service and the postage contract is between the seller and r.m. I don't think its fair how I lose out because the seller wanted to save a couple quid by choosing the cheapest postal service, it should have been sp3cial delivery covered for the value of the item. Ebay need to refund me, and the seller needs to claim off the insurance (if they included it) and that's the end of it.

What's the best way to word my message to ebay? I'm at the stage where it's giving me the option to ask ebay to step in and decide and I don't want it going awry and me losing my money. I've never had to deal with anything like this before and I'm just so bloody fed up tbh. I'm not loaded by any means and it's looking like I've gotta find another bundle and more money if this goes wrong.

Please help if you can because I'm stressed to the max, I've had a pretty serious incident with an elderly family member this week, so I haven't really been able to sort this out as quick as I'd like, but it's been a week since I complained to ebay, and I'm afraid they're going to just close the dispute if I don't respond in time.

Ebay will Give you the your money back.

However.

Royal mail offer a tracked 48 service for 150 insured. You do not need a signature.

It baffles me that RM would leave this here. As if the seller used tracked 48 (my favourite) RM will have to pay out to the seller.

The above doesn't actually matter to you, the seller will refund you, the seller should be able to get it back too.

This. A photo of a parcel on a doorstep proves nothing (even the postie could have nicked it themselves after taking the photo...).

Go back to eBay - item not delivered, there is no evidence to the contrary so they will side with you, and it is up to the seller to take it up with RM

Well if it states "delivered" on the tracking info on that item that could be interesting as normally that suffices for them to side with the seller because its official on RM's part. If its not tracked then don't worry about it

You don't need to word anything there will be a due date for delivery once its exceeded go to your purchase history click on "more actions" select "item not received" its all automated you just need to state the reason straightforward and to the point there will be an option saying do you still want the item delivered in which case they may send a replacement or do you want a refund in which case you're entitled to a refund. Seller may have some come back and ask for more time don't leave it more than a week or two there are time limits for claiming he may try and stretch it out till it expires if he ignores the case will get closed in your favour if he has no proof of delivery. Do not get intimidated keep it to the point and professional if he gets agressive use that against him and report again to eBay stating such they'll likely close the case in your favour too.

Not sure how RM can really consider anything just left on a doorstep (unless you have instructed them to do so) as delivered.

If I'm not in, my postie takes any tracked parcels away back to the delivery office.

The seller needs to refund you and get his money back from royal mail.

Royal mail frequently doing this at my address, if I'm lucky I get a knock but in the 20 sec it takes to get to the door, no-one in sight.

Ordered a quite few things from China 11.11 sale and black Friday and majority have been left on doorstep.

Had a Sunday 4pm delivery this week so guess they are backlogged and paying OT.

Agree with above, report not received.

I’d say this one is 50/50 with ebay. It will say delivered on the sellers account and RM will provide evidence of delivery.

Ebay may refund and seller will need to make a claim off ebay if RM do not refund.

Something like an affadavit to sign.

Until you receive it, the contract is between the seller and the courier.

Contact the seller and explain you haven't received the parcel and they will have to sort it out.

Love how you contradicted yourself in both sentences :D

This is the seller's problem to deal with, not yours. They need to refund you asap then contact the courier. Tell eBay this.

About a month ago I had a signed for item ‘delivered’ by Royal Mail. They delivered it to the wrong address. I only figured out where due to them taking a picture that happened to show the house number they'd left it outside.

When I went around the occupiers explained they weren’t in when it was delivered, so not only the wrong address but it was never signed for. The label was a clear printed one, not someone’s dodgy handwriting. Atrocious by Royal Mail, but I got lucky I was able to get my item. Hope you get a positive outcome.

Ebay are very unlikely to side with you if you open a case for them to review, as the seller can prove they have posted the item with attempted delivery plus Royal mails photo all logged on their system including the map. The sellers obligation in ebays view is therefore completed. The seller doesn't have to refund, chase Royal mail nor contact you and has likely black listed you, although may still receive your messages depending on their selling preferences.

It's worth checking with any neighbours if you have any, as Royal mail are funny with safe place deliveries. They often don't take photos either when it's a safe place delivery.

If you want your money back, you're best off contacting your bank. The dispute will result in ebay taking the hit as the seller will be protected through proof of attempted delivery - what Royal mail do with their/your item is out of the sellers control.

The process will take a while, as the seller is allowed to challenge your dispute, but your bank will likely side with you regardless of what they state. It's irrelevant to the seller regardless as they will be covered by ebays seller protection policy.
