if you're replying to me you've misread my post, we're on the same wavelength.
 
Just seen this for the first time. They've certainly come on a fair bit since I got my 435. I've been careful with mine and although I do sometimes get a bit of retention, there's nothing that is noticeably permanent.

Won't be upgrading though - what I have is good enough for the very rare occasions I use. Since I spend most of my time using the 27in TFT in my home office and a well-specced media PC.

I managed to lift it onto my rack on my own, but would never advise it. The lift onto the stand had to be done in phases and with a lot of determination.

I think tv is 35kg and the stand is another 12kg.
 
I don't understand side mode detection.

I read it as it detecting the sidebars and then adding them to the picture? I assume this means it activates the phosphors or something - being as it is a preventative screen burn setting
 
Nice. Looks good. shots on page 1 look real nice 'almost film like'.. It's always pretty hard to judge absolute quality of a TV from pics , same way it's hard to jound sound quality of a hifi unless you are actually listening to the hifi or viewing the TV.

As amazing as it is, it bloody should be for 2K+ :) This is a serious piece of kit. Us commoners will have to do with 'budget kit' at a mere 25% of the price oh well :D

That picture of the PZ looked pretty well abused I have to say . wonder what the number of hours on that is. And that is one thing that annoys me about the pannys OSD no provision for moving it or disabling it entirely.
 
I've just set up my 5090 last night and have it connected to my PC via DVI => HDMI. It's set to 1920x1080@60Hz. Movies look great, but on desktop, it flickers like a CRT @60Hz.

Anyone using it on a PC without the flickering? And what settings do you use?
 
Yes. It will run 24Hz, 50Hz, and a few others. Maximum was 60Hz. Didn't try the others as I assumed it would be like a CRT in that a lower refresh rate would be more flickery on the desktop. I'll give the different settings a go tonight.
 
Play around with the drive modes, and especially the pure cinema settings. I can't remember what is what exactly but I would use DM 1, but I haven't tried a pc on mine.

It should run it fine, but will need some playing.

I'm using Bumtious's settings from avforums at the moment. the picture actually looks fine except for the flicker. What do the drive modes do?

I noticed the big 100Hz sticker on the front of the TV...does that mean I can run it at 1920x1080 @100Hz? 100Hz wasn't listed in the refresh rates on the PC, but I could force it...don't want to risk damaging the display though!
 
HD-DVD, PS3, Blu-ray (HDMI devices) = DM1 . Use PC advance for 24fps footage.
Freeview, sky etc = DM1, PC-OFF
 
Really tempting to buy one of these 50Inch Kuros. We're going to be decorating the living room right after Christmas and currently I'm trying to piece together a new design.

So are these Kuros the bees knees? I'm just a bit put off with all this Image screen burn / rentention that comes with Plasmas. What is it like with the Pioneer Kuro range?

Not fussed on a stand for the the TV, will be looking at wall mounting it above the fire place.

I've currently using a 32inch Samsung, although I loved it at first. I'm starting to squint my eyes while watching from a distance.
