Strange, almost fuzzy lines whilst playing games?

I get it on any decent graphiced game. My computer is definitely powerful enough run them but every now and again there'll be weird fuzzy lines. Anyone know what the cause of this is? I don't get it in Counter-Strike but get it in Crysis and Skyrim - in Crysis it's to the point where it's unplayable.

Graphics card is a GTX460 that's barely been used (certainly not for gaming anyway).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like artifacting, hard to tell from the description. Is it possible to get a screenshot or photo with a camera?

Haven't got the time to get a photo or screenshot at the moment. It's hard to describe but i will add that it's easier to see/appears on more solid colour backgrounds.

What PSU are you running?

Have you tried the latest/any other drivers?

Have you tried a different monitor?

Antec TruePower 650W

I haven't updated to the most recent drivers but i was getting it when i first built the PC with the latest drivers at the time

I've tried it on my 32inch HDTV and get the same.

How high is gpu fan running? Try manually setting it higher, seemslike gpu ram overheating causing artifacts

Installing the latest drivers should be your first port of call then. Although I do think by your description the video card could well be borked.

I'll try that tommorrow. I really hope not though, i've barely got any use out of this card and it happened the first time i used it on a somewhat demanding game. Should've asked for help back then really. (duhhh :()

Will see what i can do with the cables aswell.

What's the best way to check my graphics card temperature?

Google HW Monitor by CPU ID. Good little program for showing temps and voltages etc. CPU-Z is also a good little prgram by the same developer that details your cpu etc, its separate to your issue but also worth downloading for future reference.

Cheers. Graphics card is running at 25, so i guess i can rule out overheating.

This sounds like idle temp.

Are you checking the temp when playing a game though? Couple ways to do this, both methods need HW Mon loaded up before launching the game, launch the game and play for a bit. Now you could try Alt-Tabbing out the game and see what the temp is or after exiting the game, look at HW Mon and it will show the lowest and highest temp the gfx card has been to since the program was launched if you catch my drift?

My guess is it will probably be in the 55 - 70 degree region? If its higher than 75 - 80 or more then it may be overheating.

Ok will do. Thanks a lot. Will do all this stuff tommorrow.

One more question, i've looked on a couple of other forums old posts and there's a suggestion it might be down to anti-aliasing or maybe even vsync? Any likelyhood of that?

I had the same problem with my Asus 560Ti, in darker areas there would be feint fuzzy lines going across the screen, went back to my 5750 which reduced the problem a great deal but it still crops up now and again so i never got to the bottom of the issue, trying out a new VGA cable which is doing the trick so far.

It could be, unfortunately its down to gfx card drivers, the hardware and the game itself, incompatibilities can always surface. I had a funny problem once with Bulletstorm, all the red blood in the game was green not red. It turned out to be the games anti-aliasing, unfortunately even on the lowest setting, it still showed as green and the only way to solve it was to turn off AA altogether, as you can imagine this lowered the visual quality of the game. Many other people never had this problem. You cant win sometimes.

Ive got a GTX460 also, maybe try an older gfx card driver if you have got the latest one, or vice versa, get the latest beta driver from Nvidia if you have an out of date one.

Installed the new drivers, reseated the graphics card, checked all the cables and it's still happening. :( A picture doesn't pick it up. I wish i could explain it better.

try turning off all intel speedstep settings ,and or c1e c3/c6 states in bios, might be interference,if still happening turn back on

I turn intel speedstep off in the bios? Knowing my lucky it's already off. Don't understand the c1e c3/c6 stuff you're talking about.
