Strange Boot Problem with SSD Install

Very weird problem...

Tried install again of an SSD on a 128GB M4 and all went well. All updates done on the system and everything works great with a 13 sec boot time after BIOS. Very pleased with overall speed. However..... :(

When I connected both my 2TB Samsung drives it all loaded up OK. Then I had to do a restart and the PC "locks" up after taking longer than before to find drives. Both HDDs come up with (S.M.A.R.T Error) message alongside each drive. M4 is fine. I have to press the power button at the front of the PC to restart and then, every thing works OK and boots up normally. So it can't be hard drive about to fail...not both of them at the same time and only on a restart. Suspect it may be a BIOS setting that is confusing it

Both HDDs are still as primary partitions although the M4 is selected first boot drive in BIOS. I have changed settings to AHCI. Should I have changed anything else...Gigabyte MA 790XT UD4

So its only on a restart ...not a power on. HELP!:confused:

Do you have a copy of windows on the HDD drives if so save important data and reformat them.
If not try gettung into windows go to device manager uninstall the HDD's and reboot.
 
If I disconnect both HDDs...no problem. Its only the SamsungHD 204UI that come up with this SMART error...

Reformatted one of the Samsungs...just had the M4 and the reformatted Samsung insttalled...still no joy.

Reversed all the tweaks I did as per the guides...still no joy

Wazza...tried that and weirdly still no luck !

I am going to try and reflash the bios with whatever is the latest..which I think I've got but a reflash might do !

I did read somewhere that the Samsung drives have a problem with ACHI....
 
I'll try a reload...there are a couple of drivers that seem to be for AHCI RAID purposes but no harm in loading them as they are later versions
 
I think I remember having an issue similar to you when I initially installed my M4 (lagged on windows load screen).

Can't remember exactly what I did, but I remember it was a quick fix, and never a problem since.
 
This takes a while longer doing ACHI Init...then shows the M4 and Samsung HDD but the Samasung has theos SAMRT error message necxt to it.

Bios then just appears to stop.

But as I say, weirdly, it ONLY on a restart not a power up from off
 
Great news....went to the AMD site...not the Gigabyte site and found a later driver and everything works. Its always something simple isn't it ? And thanks for your support guys.... :)

Boot up post BIOS takes around 11 seconds now.

Now to make M4 -C drive move libraries and load all docs, pictures, etc to the HDD automatically...as well as programs... when I can find the instructions......

Followed that thanks BM121....but I didn't realise that the AMD drivers on the Gigabyte site weren't the very latest. once I had done that, as I say, problem solved. Very pleased with app opening speed.... Photoshop CS5 opens in a quarter of the time..... marvelous. Now for some tidying up to do
