Strange performance issue with new build - Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X

I can confirm now that all those issues were caused by Gigabytes poor implementation of PCIe Gen3. My GPU, like all R9 cards is Gen3 type. PCIe in BIOS was set to Auto so it was defaulting itself to Gen3 which doesnt work properly.

Changing it manually to Gen2 fixes all the issues. Not a biggie performance wise but quite annoying regardless.

one more, hopefully last, question:

if my PSU is single rail 12v type - is it ok to use one 8pin to PSU cable or do I have to use supplied with me GPU 8 pin to 2x6pin cable with an extension?

EDIT - Ill answer myself here. Yes. 8pin to PSU is fine:)

I managed to figure out the solution. All I had to do is to turn on X.M.P. (profile 1) in BIOS. Now my card works as proper "PCI3.0 Gen3" gpu. I dont understand why though. I would never thought that I need to fiddle with ram settings. Lesson learned:)
