It's noting perticually to worry about. It just pops up if it thinks it can improve performence if you change it (which is a very very small increase in performence)

Have you got a lot of software and stuff in the background? Flash web pages could cause this error to pop if you have a few of them open.

Nah I have got "RainMeter" running all the time and apart from that there is nothing else
running really.

I get it now and again when I've closed down a game. I've no idea what causes it but its nothing to be worried about ;).

Maybe there is a registry option that could disable it from checking however I haven't had the time to go find out.

Oddly enough I had this on my old laptop using W7 when I switched applications (having tried to open a game on it, why I did that when it was so puny I know not but my main PC had blown at the time, this is my only excuse).

I read on another forum, via Google (I think it was Tom's Hardware, hope its ok to mention that) that you could right click the Game's exe file and select 'Disable desktop composition' which makes it switch to basic Windows while the game runs and that fixed it (didn't help the game of course).

I couldn't find reference to a definitive cause but some people suggested it happens when switching from full screen apps like games back into windows when it is keeping Aero going. I haven't seen it on my new PC at all.
