yes, but did the lock physically stop the wheel, or was it just too hard?
Sounds like it was just too hard as the engine and PAS failed.
I tried turning the wheel. It wouldn't turn at all. It locked about 5 degrees either way.
Steering lock will make the wheel rock solid and it won't move at all, not 5 degrees.
If it was moving a tiny bit either way then that's just the play on the rack/wheel before it actually turns the wheels and if you're used to a PAS car and not driven a nonPAS one then you may well think it's locked.
I've driven so many with and without I don't notice.
