Hi :)

I'm wondering if its possible to easily setup a camera, stream that to a live feed (website where people can watch) and also have your desktop streamed live.

What software? What limitations? I have a 0.1mb upload speed :/

The more that watch the more demanding it will become yea?

Thanks

xSplit is a good example of free (for the moment, it's still in development) software for desktop streaming. You can use one of the many streaming websites (e.g. justin.tv) to host your live stream, and then embed that stream into any website you like :). This seems to be the generally preferred method for people streaming gameplay from their computer.

You will be limited by your upload speed though, as if you're trying to stream fairly high resolution video and audio, you'll be stuck at a fairly low bitrate. The actual strain on your upload comes from what you're uploading (redundant statement), i.e. the quality of the video and audio. The strain as more people are watching is on the site which hosts your livestream, not you. So you upload to them, then other people download from them.

What sort of use did you have in mind?

Yea im just streaming justin tv now, its not the best quality.

It's a charity idea, similar to what chris moyles did on radio 1 for red nose day.

Yea it would be over 48 hours. Might even ring my ISP and see what they say
