Striker Extreme nForce 680

You cant fix a POS with software, it was bought long ago and I regret it and certainly would not buy 1 today.

I also had the 780I and its as bad.

Buy an Intel Chipset Mobo.

The only people to make a fully stable board from the 6 series chipset was gigabyte... and they avoid the 7 series by a wide margin... there is probably a reason why...

why does everybody say all 680i mobos were bad , i have got a dfi 680i and it has been faultless . i know it is a bit off a hybrid but it ran my q6600 fine with 2 8800gtx and has now got a 8400 wolfdale in it

I'm on my second EVGA 680i, the first went back because of bad squeal - no problems since, 18 months old now - not sure about quads, but my e8400 has sat at 4ghz for the last 3 months without a hitch o.n the 680i

You obv do not read much or do not OC far.

Esp bad for Quads.

there are bad posts about 680i chipset boards yes , but also many people who have been happy as well . dfi had a special bios for 4c quad core chips and most people got decent clocks out off quads on this board .
for me it has been a very good board unlike my new p45 board which has been problematic to say the least so do i put a post saying all p45 boards are no good .

my evga 680i packed in as well after 11 months use. absolute nightmare at the finish up, i bought the supposed quad friendly a1 rev but that turned out to be a no go. its currently sitting in its box with a borked memory controller. dont think ill even go through the hassle of an rma to germany.

I don't see many peeps snapping their P45's. ;)

BTW, a Bios cant fix for the better 65nm Quad support, EVGA had to revise the Mobo with higher powered SMD's (around the CPU socket area), ASUS did not (but there was Guide to do it yourself) so Q6600 OC sucked.

Certainly true about the p45 im extremely pleased with it, my evga board was ok with a dual core cpu for a while but terrible with the quad. i then started getting the dreaded c1 and double dash errors on the lcd display. tested with various ram, psu's, hdd's etc. turned out it was the board. i consider myself lucky as i know a few people who have gone through two or more 680i boards. shoved mine back in its box and bought a proper board:)

I tried for the step up from my 680ia1 to the 780i when it was released but my board was turned down, and i qote arne seifert european technical director of evga. "your board was turned down for the 780i upgrade due to brown dirt in the heatsink" i know this to be rubbish because i cleaned the heatsink with compressed air before shipping it off to them. The only conclusion i could come to was that they couldnt be bothered testing it. my board was sent to them while they were in the middle of moving headquarters and they had it for 2 weeks during this move so god knows where it had been lying about.

Thats the board i had hc, the 680ia1 revision was the upgraded model from the earlier ar revision.
