Woodpecker was what I started on as a kid when I couldn't handle more bitter drinks like lager. It's very sweet and quite low volume (3.5%) whereas Blackthorn is drier cider (used to be called Dry Blackthorn) and somewhere around 5.5%. Strongbow falls inbetween the two in terms of sweetness but I drink either, whichever happens to be on tap.
Erm, isn't Woodpecker a fairly sweet dry cider? Whereas Strongbow is full-on sweet cider..

Strongbow is great, recently taken to drinking it more when I'm out so I can avoid the lager route when I'm out. Don't usually like Bitters out of cans so I co for this instead, tastes even better after being a bit drunk too.

Weird. I've always thought Strongbow tasted sweeter and a whole load nicer than Woody's.

Maybe Woody's is just too sweet.

I like quite a few different ciders that I've tried, but I steer well clear of the stuff in general. I do weird things like sleepwalk or fall asleep on the lav if I have the stuff.

IIRC Stowford Press is a nice one, quite sweet. If you can buy something proper with bits of dead wasp in from a farm shop, that'll generally beat anything you can get from Tesco both in taste and effect.

Apparently cider messes with blood sugar and a knock on effect with some people is that it can make you aggressive/angry. It just makes me fall asleep in weird places!

What you really want is proper Snakebite.... :D

Strongbow is a fairly dry cider if you ask me, where as woodpecker and red c are both classed as sweet.

KaHn

Strongbow would be medium-dry i think.. and tis not bad at all. Blackthorns is not a patch on it, and is an odd colour.
I think Scrumpy Jack is the best out of the 'big' ciders.. better taste.

Westons Medium Dry is where its at (ugh at medium sweet and extra dry!) though if you can get it, westons organic is pretty decent as well.
Old Rosie (westons again) is nice if you want a still cider, and is pretty lethal..

The Swedish Kopperberg Pear Cider is far too sweet but quite tasty, i would have difficulty drinking more than one.

Other than that the only things that have really impressed me were some normandy ciders, the waitrose french cider is nice, and sainsburys do a good one. They taste completely different though....

Any recommendations?
Oh and I've not tried the sirrius, but i'm not sure it'll be my cup of tea, if i see it on offer....

I love Strongbow Sirrus. You can't get it many places here in Sheffield, sadly.

It's my new favourite tipple, and i only drink cider or alcopops.
As said, you really need to drink it over ice, but i far prefer it to Magners (which you drink the same way).

As for other ciders, i like sweet ciders more than dry. Woodpecker is best (after Sirrus), then Red C, then regular Strongbow - which is very sweet for a dry cider. Very refreshing too when you haven't drank it in a while.

I can't stand most other ciders i've drank. I can just about tollerate Scrumpy Jack, but Dry Blackthorn is the most hideous thing i've ever tasted.

goto a cider farm, buy some cloudy scrumpy.

sit back and enjoy. none of this strongbow crap :]

Strongbow beats any other mainstream ciders out there.

The cheap cider, like White Lightning or Blackthorn are just sugary crap.

The nicest cider i've ever had in my life was some traditional local stuff about a year ago. Magners is gorgeous too.

Snakebites and black don't get me drunk at all. I can drink 5-6 of them, and i'll have a stomach ache a long time before I even feel tipsy. You might aswell just stick to cider and black or something.
