Struggling a bit today

How horrible for you. All I can say is that I wish you the best of luck. At 35 though you are still quite young so more likely to get a transplant than an older person might be so there's that.

Good luck and keep us updated. :)

This way my heart is wired is going to make a transplant even more tricky. That's why I'm going to the freeman. They are the only ones that do them on congenital heart defect patients.

Hell of a slap up from south east London.

A journey indeed... sounds like you'd be under the same team my bro-in-law is with (think it was Mr Hasan for him). One of my neighbours used to be a nurse on that team as well and has nothing but praise for the whole team.

Enough of us OC crew up here to keep you occupied if required too...

Take care sir, and I wish you all the best.

Having experienced palpitations myself and went through a few months of hell with health anxiety I can definitely understand how bad a situation this must be.

I also get tachycardia on exertion and some skipped beats but I've had a 72 hour ECG, stress test and echo and I'm pretty certain mine aren't from heart failure, well the cardiologist hasn't told me so anyway, got to go back next month to discuss results. At such a young age it's a real pain in the **** when I can't do things I really enjoyed.

Best of luck to you Rob :)

Good luck with it all.

Fellow OcUKers, if you're not already on the organ donor list, please do sign up. That way if anything unfortunate does happen to you, there is a chance people can make use of your organs and save their lives.

This... I'm a donor.. Hopefully for my sake its a card that never gets used.. But for the sake of the OP. Best of luck.

kind of puts it into perspective I guess... lots of people get palpitations/anxiety

tis all rather trivial compared to Rob here with full on heart failure

the post re: organ donation is spot on, frankly we ought to be using a default opt in system and people can chose to actively opt out IMO

Pretty good atm. The huge dose of medication I'm now on has definitely slowed the arrythmias down and I am only getting them sporadically, mainly at night.

Problem I have now is with the meds. I am on such a strong dose that it is leaving me very tired and dizzy. It's better than palpitations though. Hopefully if the side effects wear off, I will be OK. Spoke to the consultant a couple of days ago. She was pleased with the improvement, but said she will still need to review a 24 hour ECG before making any decisions. I am awaiting an appointment letter to have one fitted.

Overall though, definitely perked up and not as gloomy as I was when I wrote the OP. Just need the side effects to subside. I nearly fainted in Tescos the other day due to slow circulation to the brain. Managed to pull myself together by bending forward. Dont know what people must have thought!

Thank you for asking though Tom. Very kind.

Told you they'd look after you at the Freeman!

:)

Appreciate your sentiments, but this is nothing to do with the Freeman. I am currently under the care of the grown up congenital heart unit at Barts Heart Centre.

If they decide I need a transplant, I will then be referred to the Freeman and they will take over from there.

Ah ok!

Well if the crap hits and you do end up up here you'll be in the best of hands!

Funnily enough I was talking to a friend of mine recently who was in there due to heart issues. He was having wires inserted via his groin to monitor the electrical pulses generated. Naturally going in via his groin he was naked.
Something fairly uncomfortable in a room full of nurses and doctors. During winter.
Two of whom he found very attractive.

Said he's never been so conflicted in the crotchal region in his life.

All the more awkward since one of the nurses is a girl who went out with another friend of ours!

Yeah, I've had that embarrassment a few times. Going up your groin is an angiogram. I've had it to do tracing of the hearts electrical system and an ablation to correct arrythmia. Angiogram was how I had my stroke. There was a blood clot sitting in the artery, they pushed it off with the wire and it went up to the brain.
