Stubble trimmer

This is a timely thread for me. I started looking for a trimmer a couple of days ago after breaking my Babyliss hair trimmers. I'll definitely be going for the Barba because there's hardly a bad word said about it.

No one has said that it improved their chances with the opposite sex but I'm prepared to take a chance. :D

I'm on my third Philips QT4075 Vacumn beard trimmer within a space of 2 years. Their motors just go and refuse to charge after a 6 months of daily use. They are ****, AVOID!!!!

I've only just had to return mine today to an online retailer and they will happily refund as it's within the year guarantee.

It looks like i'll be getting the Barba too?

How close does the Barba get? I like to go back to a fairly short stubble so that I only have to shave once a week (my face irritates easily).

Also, anyone have any suggestions on one of those micro trimmer things the barbers use to go around your ears and to the back of your neck? I'd like one for my neck.

Edit: actually just noticed there's a trimmer on the Barba. Any good?

Bought loads and all I can say is I couldn't go for anything other than Wahl now. Hadn't realised how good they are and compared to my Remmington and other 'good' brands, these work perfectly! Compared to Wahl I found some of the features on these shavers just packed up after a few months - battery life also was a nightmare. I charged the Wahl in February and use it 4x a week and have only needed to charge it once since.... that was only because I was going away and didn't want it to run out. Outstanding IMO.

Just search on the rainforest for 'Wahl Clip N Rinse Cord Cordless Rinseable Rechargeable Hair Clipper Kit Black / Chrome 9639-017'

Best £20 I've spent.

Are there any decent trimmers around at the moment that have metal guards? Almost every one I've seen has a plastic guard which has a degree of flex about it that I dislike.

iStubble is supposed to be very good

Had one of these, absolutely rubbish. Picked up a Remington Barba from Asda last week for £12. Impressed so far. Otherwise Lidl had some cheapish ones with titanium blades for £15 that received some decent reviews.

I've got the WAHL Lithium Ion total grooming kit. Brilliant. Worlds first lithium battery technology on a personal grooming trimmer so that means more power and no battery memory. It's also got good reviews on amazon us/uk

I also think the Remmington Barba is the best stubble trimmer I've had and I've been through a few:

Braun Cruzer3 - The guard on it was useless and really didn't give a very good trim, it seemed to get worse with age.

Philips - Don't know the model, but was another beard trimmer and I found the blades dulled very quickly to the point where it wasn't really cutting anymore.

Babyliss iTrim - I though the motorised head would be quite a good feature, but I found the cut wasn't as good as the previous Philips I had before it dulled.

The Barba I've been using a few years and the only issue is that the battery life doesn't last much more than one shave. I'm thinking I might replace it soon, I notice that Remmington also have a bunch of slightly more expensive beard trimmers now, has anyone tried them to see how they compare to the Barba?

What would you say is best trimmer to keep it at 0.5mm. I like to have that rough feel on my face but not long enough so hairs are visible sticking out.

It blunts far too quickly and dies at the first sign of water

Mines had some pretty heavy duty use and no sign of blunting yet. It definitely doesn't like water tho which is a bit poor.

EDIT: Tho IIRC from the customer comments when I bought mine its the replacement for the original/older version that had some issues with that.

I got mine from Morrisons for a tenner, i use it with the guard removed but it has an adjustable thingy - any shorter and I'll just wet shave (3 or 4 times a year if that/interviews/weddings etc). can't fault it really for the price.

can't really comment on battery life as I only use once a week so I charge it before every shave.
