Stuck in the airport support thread

Or whatyagointodo? :)

I admit I do troll on GD sometimes, but this thread isn't one of the ones to troll on. People reading on here are stuck / awaiting flights that aren't happening and quite possibly can't return to work from their hols because of this. Not all managers are sympathetic.

Might want to read the first page to get the joke, mate.

Dude, change your forum settings to 100 posts per page.

You're welcome :-)

I think a lot of us can commiserate with being stuck at an airport, this is next level though.

Be a few days before it all settled as planes and crew are in the wrong places.

I do find it odd that they're still just going with a 'technical fault'. If it was just that then surely there are redundancies.

Coincidentally, I luckily flew back on Saturday but we all got an extra security check at the gate where we got a little sticker which then seemed to be the most important thing they wanted to see when boarding.

I did read an article last night about a guy who's stuck and was due back to work today and his manager was fuming, didn't actually believe him until he switched on the news.

I suspect there will be quite a few people not turning up to work today.

I saw that too in BBC News. Great example of management.

Can I blame this on ULEZ somehow?

Seriously though, really sorry to hear about everyone stuck. I heard on the news that because it is outside the airlines control they don't have to offer compensation other than a simple refund and paying for food and overnight accomodation (but all hotels will be full of course).

We dodged a bullet with all this. Landed back in East Midlands from Palma on Saturday after a week of mid 30's heat (Lovely) and on Sunday the Island got battered by a storm which cancelled all the flights and then this today. We actually flew through the storm that hit them we think over the Pyrenees on Saturday, it was massive and tossed the plane around for 40 mins and was just solid black clouds out of the window, I hate flying so was ******* bricks!

I'm with you, I hate flying as well, although oddly a light aircraft or glider I'm fine in, something about getting strapped into the back of a 100 ton flying tube...

All I do is drink a good few beers before I get on and it helps a lot. Don't worry about them not letting you on the plane as long as you are quiet and polite and not making a arse on yourself they won't care.

BBC News - What are my rights if my flight is cancelled or delayed?

An alternative perspective.

BBC News - What are my rights if my flight is cancelled or delayed?

That article said:
Disruption caused by things like airport or air traffic control employee strikes, bad weather or other "extraordinary circumstances" are not eligible for extra compensation.

Prior precedent is that a technical failure of Air Traffic Control falls under "extraordinary circumstances". There is no eligibility for compensation in this case.

News is indicating it could take a few days to get back to normal, I'm flying Wednesday evening :(
Were flying 2.45 today to Tenerife. Still on time according to airport departures and operator App

Our original trip on Sunday to Paris was cancelled whilst we were at the airport (300 mile round trip) Working out how to put a claim in for fuel and non refundable tickets...

Jet2 rep just told me daughter that she's 99% sure they'll be flying home from Malaga tonight. No sign of the flight online yet, so I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

Perhaps it's more the flights back to the UK are more delayed than outbound flights? (hopefully for me :) )
