student loans...

I'm hoping my loan goes in tomorrow otherwise im gonna be screwed hehe. My best friend found out today that the cheque he paid his first installment with was out of his savings and not his parents money lol, he wasn't pleased.
 
They've still not even processed mine. I wish they would hurry up, it's needed for important student things like 530i insurance :(

Quite a lot usually but it's given in installments which I suppose is a good thing now I think about it. To give you and idea im getting first payment of 1800 quid and thats first of 3.

Depends on circumstances and parents income. Absolute max is your fees are paid for, you get a £1000 grant which you don't have to pay back and the max loan is something like £4500.

So you get one loan per year or is it one loan per term?

Interesting to hear it is means tested, I genuinely had no idea what the current situation was.

You get one loan per year, split into three parts to coincide with your universities semesters roughly. In Scotland and I'm assuming it is the same in England you can apply for a set figure for the loan also if you choose e.g. take out £1,000 rather the full amount you may be entitled to.
 
I'll more than likely be going to uni in 2 years time. So i'm new to student loans. Do loans vary a lot, what kind of sum of money are we talking when you get a loan?

£3000? More? Less?

It is means tested based on your parents income so it is hard to say, you could probably check on the website if they have some form of calculator(I haven't checked to see if one exists). The other thing is if you are a mature student or have been supporting yourself for a few years then parental contribution is not included in the loan calculation.

That 1800 quids R34P3R was talking about includes the grant on top of that loan of £4500 to make £5500 which divided by three terms is about £1800.

I registered for 2nd year yesterday but mine still hasnt gone in today :( best be tomorrow im £999.84 overdrawn on a £1000 overdraft hehe :( meant to be going out tonight too....Ill be sat by the cash machine at midnight :p

You think it'd be easier for a continuing student for the 4th year. Nope. They're even more useless this year.

Currently £900 overdrawn because my rent has come out, and my student loan is nowhere to be seen. Nice one.
 
same here...no loan and registered last wednesday...I know theres a couple of people from Salford uni on here, do you have yours yet?
