he got 32 months, not 3 years the judge recommends he serve half the sentence so 16 months and it's in youth offenders not prison.
 
pretty fair I reckon, not sure what the hell he thought would happen, especially when about 150 photographers and cameramen are filming everything you are doing

only amazing luck prevented anyone getting hit by it, and yeah I expect it was "in the heat of the moment" but some of the worst things people do can be "in the heat of the moment" behaving yourself even when you are pretty wound up is what separates idiots from sensible people

he will be out in a year easy and hell maybe even make a few idiots think before they do something retarded in the future

Watch other videos and you'll see none of the police saw it coming, or even the one you quoted for that matter.

So they didn't see it coming, so could easily have stepped under it, yes?

It was manifestly dangerous, whether he threw it into a gap or not. Hell, it could have bounced and hit someone on the rebound, and I doubt any amount of "careful" throwing could account for that.

You said he threw it at police. He clearly didn't. He threw it into the gap between protesters and police. If he wanted to throw it into police, he'd of had to been more of a spastic than he's already proven himself to be to miss.

OK, so let's substitute "at the police" for "in the vicinity of the police", yeah? Happy? It's still a hugely dangerous thing to do.

I don't think anyone is justifying what he did, it was stupid and illegal and he deserves to be punished. I think a lot of people are just questioning where's the benefit for society in sending him to prison? As the coalition government have said, prison doesn't work. I'm all for sending habitual offenders to prison and throwing away the key, but I think first time offenders, and especially youth offenders need to be given the best possible opportunities to change.

The judge said he wanted a sentence that would serve as a deterrent. The simple fact is that this sort of protest is unacceptable in a civilised society, and is also extremely ineffective, as should be obvious from the fact that it achieved nothing.

It sucks for him that he has to be the poster boy for protest idiocy, and be punished in a manner that is arguably excessive, but that's the way it goes when you need to deter people from this sort of thing.
 
Steve-h you honestly believe he was aiming for the "gap" ? What would he be trying to achieve by doing this exactly? Practising for the fire extinguisher roof top tossing contest no doubt... :/
