my parents paid for the car, and pay for the servicing, and all the other boring stuff.
I pay for the fuel and Insurance. Works out to be around £200 a month, which is easily covered by my student loan.
My parents also pay for my tution and accomodation fees, so I have about £1k a term to spend on non-uni stuff (ie, drugs/alcohol/clubs

).

Easy peasy. Don't forget MOST students don't work and blow all their money on new hi-fi, computers, designer clothes, chicken breast and takeways for dinner and beer. And they wonder where all the money went.

I worked one day a week and during holidays and had plenty of cash to play with my car, as I still do now. Don't flitter it away on other things and you'll be surprised what's left over.

Edit: my folks bought the car for me and it was £650 a year before I went to university.

I do about 15 hours during termtime. Its a squeeze, but I just about pay for everything. That £133pm about £60 - 80 petrol, and do most of my own servicing.

I must spend about 50% of my wages on the car.

Depends on your car too, im looking at 5-6 grand to run mine for a year in total which is a large amount no matter how you look at it. Had to cut right down on going out, live at home too, so no accomodation costs, need to buy my food and pay my fees and commuting costs with my loan though so im always pretty skint.

I have a 1.2 fiat. I need to do 80miles a week. Im not a harsh driver either. So most likely have to fill up every 2 weeks?

On just 80miles a week you should be able to go for a month on one tank or petrol. what model have you got, punto? bravo? etc.

Payed for my car upfront (£700) and insurance (£900). My dad is a mechanic so free labor.

All I have to pay is petrol really. £20 a week. I normally pay that in travelling on a train to Uni. After xmas wil be looking at getting a Fiat Coupe

My money goes on university so I simply can't afford to own a car, however if I lived at home I could get a pretty nice car. However I like to have my priorities sorted so my own car isn't important to me at the moment.

I earn £350 a month but I have got a paypacket of £620 next Friday due to lots of overtime.

£150 goes to Quinn for insurance.

Then £30 a week petrol.

And I struggle some months................

Oh I am a Full Time Student too.

I bought my R5 GTT in my 2nd year of University. I had to work 24+ hours out of every weekend to be able to afford to run it but I didn't care cos I loved it.

Just about the same with my rover, its a huge money pit but whenever i go for a blast i love every minute of it. Only problem is i go for too many blasts and it drinks the petrol

Work loads of overtime at waitrose to earn money and my brother has been stupidly kind to me by buying me loads of stuff for the car like clutch fuel and other service bits like cv boots, plus he knows a lot about cars so I dont have to take it to a garage or anything. oh and the car was £280

Admittedly it was a few years since I was at Uni

and it was in the days of the student grants but I ran a car from my 2nd to 4th (final) years. Uxbridge was lucky in being counted part of London so had a higher grant but housing was cheap (about the same as Loughborough). I also received a bursary from my sponsoring company and worked there 6 months of a year (thin sandwich course).
