Bedsit is everything in one room. Everything. Studio has at least the toilet and bathroom in a separate room.
kitchen, lounge, bedroom in one room, that is usually a bedsit.
Some of the places I looked at had a partition, but not a door between main room and toilet. These were absolute dives, which is what a bedsit is.Clearly wrong, the name bedsit comes from combining the words bedroom and sitting room implying they are the rooms that are shared. A tradiitional bedsit had the kitchen living room and bedroom all in one room with a seperate bathroom quite often shared bettween several bedsits. I have never seen or heard of a bedsit where the toilet/shower was in the main room with no segregation, I believe that it would and still does violate building regs to have a toilet not seperated by a door from the kitchen.
If you go on a property website, you only find listings of 'studio' as 'bedsit' is an outdated word. A Studio can then be anything from one room with everything in it, to a room which has bathroom, or kitchen separate. It's basically anything which isn't a 1 bedroom flat, which has the bedroom as a separate room!
Not in the search there isn't but if you read the description. It will state bedsit or studios. Or at least in Bristol they do.Not on any of the big property website they aren't... there isn't even listings for 'bedsits'.
A bedsit, also known as a bed-sitting room, is a form of rented accommodation common in Great Britain consisting of a single room with a shared bathroom and lavatory; they are part of a legal category of dwellings referred to as Houses in multiple occupation. In some cases the room has a small formal kitchen area but it is common for the tenants to have no more than an electric kettle and single electric ring.
So far I'm not really coming round to the idea![]()

Of course not all, but someone says bedsit, you do tend to think of a cheap-as-possible hovel. Not all bedsits are a dive, I live in one currently so that I have more disposable income and it suits me just fine, my landlord is a gem, the place is very tidy and well looked after, it's also in a lovely position so it manages to catch the sun most of the day.
