Stupid eBay question time

As I said, it's possible that they have a depot in Stoke. Many sellers have depots in foreign countries which cater for that country. It's much cheaper to ship a pallet of goods over and split it into single orders in the UK than to ship each individual item from China.

That said, these "depots" are usually chinese takeaway shops or the like where the owners want to make a few quid on the side or are family.

It's not rare.

I'm not trying to tell you that it's not a scam, merely informing you of how things tend to work when dealing with Chinese sellers. I deal with them a lot.

I do realise this is how it works with distance sellers but you normally see places like Portsmouth or Birmingham so it was a complete surprise when I saw Stoke in the location and that's why I asked if the location could be auto generated. It does look like it will be a Chinese Takeaway in Stoke.

Post the item ID so we can check the location, or if you don't want everyone to know what it is, Trust message it to one person. Or just ask a mate from elsewhere to check. Seems easiest. :)

e; Ahh, missed that post.

Whatever faith they have they shouldn't pretend they're a UK based seller.

People buying from what appears to be a UK location wouldn't be impressed when they got the bill for the import VAT.

Very true. However, if this is in fact based in Stoke then odds are that import duty has already been paid.

Start googling takeaways in Stoke and ask for pickup. Maybe they'll throw in some sweet and sour pork balls :p

Now that's sorted how do I know that a piece of equipment is not a fake?
I was reading AVForums earlier and a guy on there said to be careful because there are a lot of fakes of this item.
I'm the type of person who will pay more to know I'm getting non fake but even an English seller could be selling fakes with a few quid on top.

open up and inspect? remove the heatsink check the cpu etc. take it as an opportunity to up the thermal paste quality.

if it does turn out to be a lower spec than claimed replace the thermal paste with toothpaste, and send it back.

Sorry mate, that's unfortunately out of my jurisdiction.

:D

The same guy on AVForums was saying something like 'Check they are Trusted Sellers' but I don't know where to look (my eyes are bad at the moment also so it isn't a case of just being thick).

When you click on the sellers feedback it tells you the location the seller is registered in e.g China.

I always avoid dodgy chinese/hong kong/singapore sellers as much as I can and buy from a UK registered supplier.

Cant you ask for collection if its in stoke?

That's why I started this thread, I emailed him to ask, no reply and then I found out where he's from. Still no reply and I've sent 3 emails.

would that be on the manufactures site. They often have a list of shops/sellers that they pt up as "official/trusted".
