I recently bought this RAM and have it running on 2.2V at 5-5-5-15 according to my motherboard. The spec says it should run at 1066MHz on 2.2V however when i use 3DMark to view my system info, it says the RAM is only running at 667MHz.

Am I missing something?

This is what CPU-Z is showing

My system is overclocked to OCUK instructions as it came in a bundle.

It's a Q6600 @ 3.31 and an Abit IP35 pro MB.

Thank you both!
Definitely up for a challenge :) As i'm sure you've gathered i'm not the most educated of overclockers so would really appreciate the help, but am i'm likely to see any gains? Is it worth it for the extra 0.3Ghz and 1066MHz??
If so, game on!

Sounds great :)

Definitely keen to get to know my system and, like you say, OC my own systems in future. Got the CPU/MB/RAM as a bundle from OCUK with instructions how to successfully OC so never really learnt how to do it, just plugged their numbers in.

Am i ok to do this on air? currently using a tuniq tower which keeps the CPU at about 60C under load on 50% fan.

I mainly use the system for flight simulator (which i know is very CPU dependent) plus the odd fps.

I'm looking forward to see what else we can get out of it :D

Heh quoted for truth! :)

there should be a complete walk-thru posted up in stage by stage moves that takes a keen nOOby right through the various steps,

i would certainly have taken advantage of that! I hope one day i'll be in your position helping the noobies :D

right, i've got the RAM running at 1088 on 1.9V

you're right, certainly seems a lot snappier with the faster RAM even with a lower clock! not tried gaming though :D

I saw in the screenie above you were overclocking the memory, I was expecting to see approx 533MHz (1:2), Is the FSB 266MHz in that shot or 272MHz

Yeah, didn't realise the FSB was at 272, reduced it down to 266

have followed your instructions and these were the results you said to look out for

CPU - 2.39MHz
vcore idle - 1.300V
vcore load - 1.280V
temp idle - 42C
temp load - 54C

CPU - 3.01MHz
vcore idle - 1.300V
vcore load - 1.260V
temp idle - 42C
temp load - 61C

all went fine using prime95 and games, no instability

Run a 3.0GHz Quad Core on a 333MHz-FSB/1333MHz System Bus with the Memory at DDR2-1066 through a few games, diagnostics etc and come back when your done!

only problem was when i set the FSB to 333MHz, DDR2-1066 wasn't an available option, i went for the nearest one which was 1002. have i gone wrong somewhere?

haven't updated the bios in quite a while, should i?

right... got it booted at...
6x333GHz
and DDR2-1002

northbridge is warm but not burning :)

didn't die during games/prime95 :)

I flashed the bios...
all went well, installed the new bios...
5 system beeps...
no signal to the monitor but computer is still running...
frightened to reset incase it screws the bios up...
what should i do?

no confirmation, just a blank screen then powerdown.
started up the machine and it says it's testing memory and taking an age to do it... can't escape it. the led on the mb is saying C1 initially then 52 if that helps

yup, i think it just tried to give us a little scare!

the bios has gone back to version 1!

in the bios the multiplier is x9 but in CPU-Z it flicks between x6 and x9 what's that all about?

[edit] You got a floppy drive connected nicnac1?

nope... we don't even have them at work lol :D

although, when i originally did it, i manually set the defaults back on the bios rather than choosing 'load fail safe defaults'

i could try doing that

would having version 1 cause problems with a future overclock?

Wow Big Wayne you go far out of your way to give information, much respect :D

Very informative and detailed, cleared it all up nicely! You would make a great teacher i think :P

totally agree! :) you must have the patience of a saint to deal with a noob like me!
