The BIOS has gone back to version #1 . . . Huh? 
The CPU multi jumping up and down is EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep) which we earlier disabled. Your gonna need to disable all those advanced CPU options like we did before.
Would like to know what is going on with your BIOS though?

I thought you had to use a Floppy to update older boards but that pages says its ok to use a USB flash drive . . .
Kinda think we should get it done now but I'm not in a rush to bOrk a motherboard!

nope... we don't even have them at work lol
although, when i originally did it, i manually set the defaults back on the bios rather than choosing 'load fail safe defaults'
i could try doing that
would having version 1 cause problems with a future overclock?
You can only work with the facts you’re presented with – and a flash was always in the offing if his clock/attempt hit a brick wall (your timing was logical and considered).
I suspect making sure you have the latest BIOS is one of the first steps when considering overclocking your system (i happen to think it is - but it's debatable) – but is hard to treat as a 'rule of thumb' when advising a novice as it’s prone to disaster which, obviously, would not be the advisers fault – but that doesn’t stop the guilt that would follow...
I vote flash as it makes logical sense! (with disclaimers attached!)

you must have the patience of a saint to deal with a noob like me!It's the first BIOS that launched with the board so it's probably a good idea to get the latest microcode that the ABit engineers took one year to revise, we can push on without doing it but we kinda started now . . . this should be the easy part!
I only know how to flash an ABIT BIOS using a floppy disk, was such an easy process, just insert blank floppy, right click on it and select Format/Create an MS-DOS Start-up disk then when thats done you just copied the contents of the downloaded ABIT BIOS.zip onto the floppy, reboot with the floppy set as first device then you just needed to type runme
Tell me how you flashed it using your USB thumb drive?
Ok yeah I have used that HP tool a few times but I can't say I've flashed a BIOS with it, in theory it should work fine. Have you made a bootable USB drive before using that HP tool or was this your first time?
When you did the flash what did you type to make the process begin? runme or something else?

first time i used this tool, have only ever once flashed a bios before and that was with a mate on his computer about 2 years ago!!
was following the instructions i linked above. set the bios to run the usb stick first and typed "runme.bat"
all seemed to work fine, got all the confirmation messages, enter, enter, enter, etc and it said it was wiping the old bios and replacing it with the new one. then 5 system beeps and a blank screen.
If anyoner can help getting this ABIT IP35-Pro flashed I would be grateful!
nicnac1 are you 100% positive the flash didn't take, CPU-z confirm this or?
bios and CPU-z confirm it's version 1.0
Hmmm, the USB Flash drive is one option, you need to feed it the correct Windows files when your creating it, sounds like you did that if you managed to get the flash app running.
We either have to try again using the flash drive taking it slow, or get your a floppy drive from somewhere or use the dreaded Windows Live Update that works for me but kills everyone elses board or just **** it and push on with old BIOS!
I'm not sure what has just happened! I can't say I heard of someone updating their BIOS and ending up with the same BIOS
You did download the right BIOS yeah!

Other than suggesting that nicnac1 invest in a floppy drive - no. I was hoping the flash drive option would work – especially as it’s my preferred method.
Keep the faith? (maybe) - the theory adds up from his link - here's hoping...

this is how I see it, the ABIT IP35-Pro with BIOs #1 will work good but be fine tuned towards running chips at 266MHz-FSB/1066MHz System Bus because thats what most the Core 2 chip were using at that stage . . . . chips that ran on the 333MHz-FSB were strictly for the rich techno-playboys who could afford one, fast foward a year or two and everythings evolved and got faster, the ABIT BIOS engineers would have made some fine tunes adjustments to the multitude of options hidden away in the depths to supprt these faster speeds.
As we are trying to get your chipset running a lot faster (333MHz > 400MHz > 500MHz) it would be an advantage to bring your board up to date (well at least from 2007 to 2008!).
If you can't wangle a floppy drive and blank floppy disk from somewhere then the next safest option is to try the USB approach one more but I am worried you will bOrk your board and then its game over!
This is the really boring part and the quicker we get it done the quicker we can get back to overclocking.
Its your call dude, if you wanna have another go at flashing go for it but if your patience is lacking we can have a stab at some more clocking, maybe in the near future we can flash the board somehow!

against my better judgement i tried it again and it worked!!!

version 17 installed although strangely CPU-Z is now displaying Version 6 but with the date of version 17 (the bios itself says 17 - which i'm more inclined to believe)
not sure why it didn't work properly the first time...
