I was just wondering if any was given any stupid rules when they were growing up, or they have them now. Or just stupid things people used to say to you.

My Dad for example used to always tell me off if I read the newspaper at the table, even if I was just sitting there on my own. Now I have this thing where I quite like reading when im eating, which im sure is as a result of this.

And when they tell you not to run in the corridors in school, if you run and you fall over, its your own stupid fault surely?

Plus one of my ex boyfriends always used to frown at me (even though I was 2 and a half years older than him and a grown up) whenever I put salt on my food, because he said it was unhealthy, yet he thought it was ok for him to smoke?

Sorry if this thread is annoying, I am very sleep deprived but it was just something I was thinking about just now.

My mum used to always tell me not to go near the lead for the iron because it was electrified when it was on,

even now I am scared to touch the iron lead :D

mum always said look with your eyes and not with your mouth. I'm quite good at finding things now as a result though :D

What does that even mean?

I don't think I actually had any stupid rules. At least, I can't remember any if there were some.

There was a little weird wooden thing making part of our stairs and I used to slide down it. Apparently I wasn't supposed to do that because "I'd make the house fall down" *

*It was a supporting beam I discovered years later.

It means not just scanning a room and saying "i cant find it" and actually looking under stuff etc :p

Same here, though one of them did buy a car from a friend without a license and run over an OAP.

Well I was never allowed to meet them to know how their lives turned out, I was only allowed to mix with people at school.... kinda sucked and made me a social retard....

The only stupid rule I had was no swearing!
If I did it would result in either mustard in the mouth or a bar of soap which ever was closest.

The first one I guess is only rude if there are other people.

The second one - you may run and hurt yourself but if you ran into other people (pretty likely in small school corridors) you could hurt other people, or break something.

The last one is silly, you need salt in your diet, it's only unhealthy if you food has a lot of salt in it.

Not strickly true. Most foods have more than enough salt. For example breakfast cereals, bread, biscuits, etc. A lot of foods we eat are processed and without us even knowing, these food will have plenty of salt in them. By adding salt yourself, you are almost certainly going way boyond the (healthy) limit. In a typical British diet consisting of lots of processed foods you are already getting plenty of salt - far more than your body needs.

In the original post by Knip, however, I do find it hypocritical that the guy smoked yet had the nerve to tell her to watch her salt in-take.

Guess im killing myself then.... I cook with salt in my veg etc, and if im having say pasta/chips i always put extra salt on after because i love the taste....

I used to add salt into my food but now i dont, have no idea why ive stopped as i like the taste of salt.
Also i drink about 70% milk and 30% orange squash. Theres never any fizzy drinks in my home.

One silly rule my said was
"Dont drink lemonade(when we used to have it) before sleep as it will give you headachs" I have no idea how this is possible.:confused:
