Hi guys,

So I experience a small amount of stutter in Far Cry 3 which I figured was normal. I've just installed Sleeping Dogs and experience the very same thing. It can be running at a smooth 60fps but then drop to around 30fps.

This is with vsync enabled and disabled, AA isn't on settings are on medium.

One thing I noticed though today, was my CPU temps were all running at 66 on all 6 cores. If you plus 10 to be safe this would be 76? Could this be the cause of stuttering I've been experiencing.

The GPU is running at a cool 39 or high 50 when stressed.

What do you guys think?

On idle the temps have stopped around 36/37. I guess I really need to buy an aftermarket cooler so I don't damage the CPU.

My main question though - Would this be the cause of the stuttering I've been experiencing and the slowness in certain tasks?

If you run the games and task manager along side it when the frames spike how much of the CPU is being used? Also what monitors res are you playing at and is the game artifacting?

also sounds like a driver issue to me, but if it's a temp or case issue then there are some great vga coolers out there that work well, better than stock coolers for most cards

I will test that now and let you know shortly Bacon. As for the drivers they're the very latest ones installed.

CPU usage seems to be around 75% according to task manager. Might the CPU be the cause of the stuttering? Especially with it running so hot, I'm only running it at the stock 2.8ghz

Hmmmm that could possibly be the cause then. I would reccomend getting a decent after market cooler and overclocking it.

Have you looked in the windows event log? It can be surprisingly helpful - I had a similar issue I tied down to a failing hard drive via event log errors.

Yeah I think I've just confirmed it. I booted up Sleeping Dogs again, running smooth as butter. As soon as temps hit 65/66 on the CPU it started showing stuttering.

Prolimatech Megahalems Rev C CPU Cooler
Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler
Zero Infinity Phantom Knight CPU Cooler

all good for overclocking and lower temps for any normal chip, have used all 3 and the last one in my own with great results.

Try setting the post FX setting to low. You should be able to run the textures in high quality. You'll have to tweak things to suit your taste but you should definately be able to run most of the settings on high.

Thanks - I was looking at the K2 Mount Doom. Main reason I haven't pulled the trigger, I'm just worried about size and it fitting.

I'm looking to upgrade to a Haswell i5 next year - would that cooler likely fit this and my build next year? More parts I can re-use the better :D

I can't link my current case as it isn't sold here and I think it's discontinued anyway :p

But I'm using an "Avenge Power Gangster Blue BOS-02A".

can't find any issues with case, so airflow seems ok, but yes it's discontinued now, as it doesn't come with a psu, which one have you fitted?
