cars a 1.6 16v 52 reg 307, over the last week or 2 ive notice the car stuttering. this only happens when the cars been still for several hours. i start the car and drive off there then seems to be a slack of power and the car holds back and stutters slightly before the power suddenly kicks in. if i pull away and change into 2nd it'll do it then too but it only does it once. once this stutter has gone the cars fine and if i stop, turn the engine off its fine, it only seems to do it when the cars cold. any ideas what the prob could be ?

Most cars do that when their cold... I think its something to do with the fact that its just been inactive and everything needs to get flowing again..

My old Lanos was terrible for it.. Mini does it occasinally too.. either that or I have very bad clutch control..

I had the same car, 52 reg as well and it did that. First thing in the morning without fail. By the time I needed to first gear again, a mile down the road, it was fine. I just learned to live it!!

surely it cant be because its cold, ive had the car 18 months with out a problem. its worked faultless through out the sub zero temps we've had over the last month and only now it's doing it at 10'c

My 206 does this and it's had plugs leads and oil change etc. Sometimes it completely cuts out.

Really? If it was my car I would have that looked at - could be very serious if the engine cuts out. Could loose power steering and brakes!

I have had it looked at, nothing comes up on the ECU about it and it was looked at when I had the head gasket and timing best done with the new plugs etc so they had access to pretty much everything engine wise.

The only way to sort it is thrash it from the get go. It's only on the first few yards of movement from being left overnight. LEaving it for8 hours during the day doesnt effect it.

Still, I'm replacing it soon so im not going to spend any more on it, plus the brakes are sodding useless anyway!

Oh look - the predictable "French cars are rubbish" posts - grow up!!
Pleased somebody posted the link to the story at the BBC.

I'm currently experiencing exactly the same problems and have been since the end of last week.
I fill up exclusively at Tesco too in the Cambridge area.
Too much of a coincidence.
My car is booked in to be looked at Monday of next week - if they refuse to cover the repairs I need to find out who will be covering them.

my car did that for a while.... then i found out that a coil had gone and i was running on 4 cylanders instead of 5! £30 for each one that goes.... so far 2 have gone only 3 left to replace!

(used to own a peugeot great slot loading cd player but no space in the car at all that one would fit (door pockets and glove box actualy smaller than a cd))

Even worse are the reliability tables:

Which cars are fighting a losing battle against reliability? You guessed it: they're French. Eight out of the ten least reliable cars come from across the Channel, with the Peugeot 807 propping up the table.

@stoofa: Maybe you need to grow up and buy a decent car?!
