An exceptional driver.
Didn't we already have this argument. Lol...

I might have got it wrong though, did he stop before the line or after? I thought it was before which was a bit like Usain Bolt celebrating his 100m win before the end. Difference being that was for Olympic gold, the culmination of 4 years training... not a single GP in one year :p

I'll admit that probably anything max does will annoy me anyway!

Annoying people tend to do that :cry:

I was agreeing with you :)

I see Lewis taking this one, the Merc looks better on longer runs and with the harder tyre. I don't see RB repeating their tactical masterclass of last race this time either, although they do have their 2v1 advantage again with RB happy to compromise Pérez's race and split their strategies for the best result for the team and Merc still playing things fair between Lewis and Bottas. Is a cheeky podium for Norris on the cards as well?

I'm hopeful for this one. George seems to be edging closer all the time, he's a bit of luck away I think.

He's been better lately, hasn't had a proper spin in the race since Imola but he also seems to be struggling here so maybe.

Disappointed on ALL THREE counts...

Poor George.. guy is just such an unlucky boy!

Why is Mercedes suddenly slower than Red Bull when they started faster?

Merc were slower from the start, the advantage they had in some of the races before this was just tyre wear/life (e.g. Bahrain and Barcelona), and that tyre advantage didn't seem to happen in Austria hence the dull race.

If that's not just a 'one off' (well, next week is likely to be the same) and RB have actually improved that area then it's job done, congrats Max :p

I'm not a Verstappen fan, but I was happy to see him do that. For 20+ years we've not had the drivers really celebrating wins in their car, final races excepted, due to the need to 'preserve the car' or 'the tyres need to be inspected after the race' etc.

Give it the beans, lad. Drift backwards down Eau Rouge and give the crowd something actually exciting to cheer about.
Imagine if Hamilton had done any of that, he would have been crucified.

Going to be a dull season if Mercedes have actually stopped development to focus on next year.
To be fair to Mercedes it might actually be too expensive for them to fix the shortfall in performance caused by the change in the rules (which I still feel they knew would hit low rake more) along with with the cap on costs and tokens.

If Red Bull win the season I'll personally feel it was a pretty shallow victory seeing as you could easily argue the reason they've won is as much due to the rules affecting Merc more (they've lost more relative to last season, same with aston martin) as much as their improvements... this is coming from someone who isn't a huge hamilton or merc fan. Not saying verstappen isn't a good driver but I just don't like him either.

I'd love to see the merc projections of their performance delta due to the changes in regs. Without doubt, Redbull have made strides in performance but given how strong the merc chassis was last year across most of the races its clear that they've gone backwards effectively.

Loving Norris' attitude and performace. Shame for Russell but looking good for his future if he can drag that williams all the way up to 8th and challenging for 7th until the reliability issues struck.

I still find Verstappen so arrogant. His burnout on the finish line.. just ugh..

I still think he's a bit of a tit but there's no denying he's a really good driver. There's definitely a Max/Lewis difference that taps a percentage of performance onto their respective cars. I just find Red Bull so unlikeable... I'd probably like Max more if he was somewhere else. :o:D

They seem to have suffered from the smaller floor/no ability to change engine modes/other changes for this year. It feels like their car has a specific window where its a beast but if it falls out of that window it suffers a big performance hit.

What's happening with the flexy redbull wing then? Why are they still allowed to run it?
The last I can recall (Baku) it was the Mercedes wings (both front and rear) which were flexing more than Red Bull's. The Red Bull's rear wing was barely moving at all and I've not heard anything about it since.

It seems Mercedes new grumble has been about Red Bull's pitstops instead, hence the upcoming change.

Mercedes have been going on about wanting a challenge for years and now someone has stepped up to give them one it's less about improving themselves and more about "what mud can we get to stick". They've turned into a difficult team to like this year. Except for their social media admin - they still seem quite fun.
