Sub-1k System?

Hi All,

I wouldn't mind some help picking the components for a sub-1k system.

I already have a Corsair 600T case and a 27" Hasro screen so they don't factor into the cost.

I'm not a high end gamer by any means (more of a 360 fan!) so it doesn't need to play games at the highest possible settings.

I do a lot of design work though, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, and a bit of 3D Studio Max.

So i was looking at 16gb memory as the amount of layers and/or polygons i work with slows my old pc down to a crawl.

I wanted to get SATA-3 components if possible so it's more futureproof, USB3 etc.

Also i'm not unsure whether to go for Core i5 or i7, but if overclocking is as easy as it sounds on here i'll probably do that.

One of the main factors for me is that the system runs cold/quiet! :)

Thanks!

Ryan

new 'this week' offers are due to go up shortly, a number of the parts suggested will be going up in price as they're from last weeks offer which ends today so best wait till then as unless op buys now they'll find the price is different to that quoted.

also unless the op will be overclocking over 4.6ghz then pointless spending £40 on the cooler as the gelid tranquilo etc will do just as well allowing you to use the £15 odd elsewhere.

Cheers Guys,

Just a few questions while i work out what i do/don't need,

Is there a reason to get the motherboard separately, is that one better than the in these 2 bundles:
Intel Core i7 2600K & Asus P8P67 Pro Intel P67 Mainboard **B3 Revision**
or:
Intel Core i7 2600K & Asus P8Z68-V PRO Intel Z68 Mainboard?

Also, with the cpu cooler, as the window of the case is transparent, is there anything "better looking".

Just out of curiosity i wouldn't mind installing some lights or lit-up cables etc for inside it

Will i need to buy any thermal compound or will it come with the paste applied (i.e. i can just set up and go when it all arrives without having to make any trips to the shops :) )

Thanks again!

Yes, they are a very simular price, selecting your own motherboard does give you different options. The MSI i picked for example is PCI-e gen 3 ready, where the Asus boards in the bundles are not.
It's just personal choice at the end of the day.

Hmm.. I don't know what you class as better looking. Its best to have a scout around see what you like the look of.

The only thing i can suggest is posssibly the Coolermaster V8, though coolermaster coolers are sometimes louder than ther coolers.

Yes you may need thermal paste for your new CPU cooler, it may come with the cooler itself, most do; but better to be safe.
I think MX-2 is a good compound.
