Sub £400 graphics card for 1440p gaming

I'd honestly just hold off atm, turn graphics down a notch or run at 1080p for now. This price bracket is going to get massively shaken up in a matter of weeks and you'll have the option of something 30% faster for the same £; or some hefty discounted on existing cards as the retailers try to dump stock.

^^ This, rumor has it the 3060Ti is due mid November for under $400, and they'll be an AMD equivalent 6700 series of some kind not far behind I'd imagine...

No it doesn't. A Vega 56 is starting to struggle for 1440 now, espically at higher frames.

And a 56 is about 40% faster than a 390. I went from a 390 to a vega.
Agree. Want to upgrade my Vega 56 as it's not enough for 1440. It's good enough for most games just on the limit for recent games.

Most likely get a 6800xt or 6700xt

3060ti/super or a 6700(xt?) will likely be the best choice in this price bracket. 5700xt will do watchdogs legion / red dead redemption / horizon zero dawn at 60fps @ 1440p with a bit of option tweaking but at ~£400 it's not good value right now.

A year ago, it was the absolute value king and a good buy. Now; i'd wait.

Yep 5700xts will go down in the 2nd hand market very soon. I'd wait for a cheap 5700xt or whatever new mid range cards come out.

Honesty if you're looking for a £400 card right now the answer is spend another ~£50 and just get a 3070. In a few months we should have some decent mid range options like 3060/etc for more sensible money though.

Correct, on paper it's a good card.

But we're in the middle of an arms race, 6800 absolutely kerb stomped it for not much more.

My recommendation is to turn down graphics settings and/or resolution and wait for all of this to settle down.

Depends on game & settings. Using an RX 480 now, so close to a 390, and it does quite well at 1440p. Heck, playing WD:L now and it does >45 fps no sweat, and if the game weren't so CPU limited it could do better. Sure, if you want >60 fps that's not gonna happen, or ultra everything, or the odd game like RDR2, but in general you can definitely make it work to near 60 fps at 1440p.
When I had a Vega 64 I'd push 1800p @ 60 fps more often than not. These cards are beasts! But people gotta stop just maxing out every setting.

You cant buy a Vega, they don't make them anymore

Would love to be able to buy one of the new AMD or Nvidia cards but think they will be out of stock for a long time sadly. I might leave it a month and see what happens.

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded my monitor from a 24" 1080p to 27" 1440p and think I need to upgrade my graphics card. I'm currently running a gtx 1060 6 GB and I'm very aware of the new 3 series and big Navi but they're out of my price range and I'm looking to get something pretty soon. I'm not bothered about having everything on Ultra, ideally just to be able to run things on high at 60fps.

Any recommendations please?
I’d suggest saving a few quid more and getting at least a 3070, we are talking £50 more, remember patience is a virtue, virtue is a grace, put them both together makes a happy smiling 1440 face

Im not in the habit of making spurious statements. I bought it to play Fallout 4 at the time and it plays the games I play (hitman, fortnite, command and conquer, xcom2) beautifully. Are you going to tell me I am wrong about that too?
