was wondering if any1 can shed some light on things, as i dont realy have a clue about any of it.

im not after the most amazing stuff, something to take bass stress from my 6x9 cos they start to make not nice noises when its on loud. i will be upgrading the 6x9s and head unit later to.

also would be great if the place can fit it cos ive no idea about wireing. i ive in wigan, thats in north west near manchester incase u dont no :p

thanks for help.

JBL sub & amp kit from Motor World, cheap and cheerful, and everything you need.

10" is around £100 and 12" is around £149 so i remember...

2 channel JBL GTO2000 is about 50 and 10/12" JBL sub is about £"9/£50 respectively, but you need to buy a wiring kit and sub box too.

Oh, and lose the 6x9's and get some components instead, you don't need them with a sub, infact, they hinder the sound.

ok i will have a look on motorworld,

"Oh, and lose the 6x9's and get some components instead"

components

is there much of a diffference between 10" and 12" to justify geting ther 12?

"but you need to buy a wiring kit and sub box too"
i have no idea about wireing up, so would realy like it done at the place.

have seen this cheaper sub its got 600 Watts Max

but this more expensive only is 200

a difference in the performance of these?

2nd part, im going to be geting a new head unit later on. what do i look for when geting one? i normaly go for the 4 X xx and make xx as large as possible. i also want it to take my ipod in some way.

sorry for all question but i have no clue what im looking for here

could one of you kind people maybe quickly pick a sub/amp combo and a head unit to go with it. either motorworld or halford. i would apreciate muchly.

thanks

The grey sub is what i have under my desk justnow.....splx.....its OK not that great. My mate had two with a kenwoods amp, whacked it in the back of a mates 206 and he says its superb. I only pad £15 for the sub + the box though ;) .

The alpine will probably have a clearer and more precise sound. They are an a lot better make obviously.

10" is more punchy and would be good for fast hitting bass like dance music........12" and 15" subs are good for slow low bass like hip hop n that.

Wiring it isnt that hard, just make sure you ger a good quality low?? guage cable. As you say you have no clue its probably best to get them to do it.

DO NOT GET THE ******* SPLX combo,my mate had the amp and was crap.....kenwood was a lot better, even a ripspeed amp was better.

i listen to rock and metal music, but i like to have it loud on occasion.

im thinking i should get from halfords as they fit and have a lot more choice but they dont seem to do sub/amp combos.

spec me an amp and sub from halfords plz for £200 max, the less the better

Not sure if halfords fit subs and amps....the one i work in only fits head units/daft bluetooth stuff etc, although he is a bit of a fat ****.

The subs 300W rms, wire it up to be 4ohm with the amp and the amp will push 290w so they both match quite well.

Well I would personally ditch/sell the 6x9's you got already. Then I would get the 12" JBL GTO deal at car audio security for £125.

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1233.html

I would have normally said 10" but according to the guys on talkaudio forum they say its a bit of a myth that 10" is much punchier than 12" as long as you have a not too small boot.

I am personally looking at buying the same setup as that but with a 4 channel amp, they I can amp my front componant speakers. Thats one thing I would really recommend. You could get a 4ch now and then instead of buying those better 6x9's you said in your opening post, buy some front componant speakers and amp them. Also to get that above amp/sub deal with a 4ch amp you need to ring the shop.

Edit - PLEASE don't buy from halfrauds. It isn't that hard to install a sub, consider it as a nice challange for you, for £200 you could get the above with 4ch amp and then nearly buy some nice front componant speakers!

i listen to dance music so i went for a 10" sub in my boot, it is punchy but is also still good with R+B style.
I think only a true audiophile will notice much difference between the 10 and the 12 except at very high volumes.
compnents are a seperate mid / tweeter which wire upto a crossover and they create seperate soundstages, bass from the rear, midrange from where your front speaker is and the tweeter will sit up top and seperate all tyhe ranges, whereas the 3 way 6x9's put them all together and ruin the soundstage.
You'd be best going for a kit where you get the wiring with it as the wiring kits cost about £30 on their own.

If you can follow a basic wiring diagram, then wiring the whole lot up is very easy, the hardest bit is getting the cable from the battery to the amp, where you have to get through the firewall, if you need anymore help, i'm sure we'll all help you and save you the cost of having it fitted. If it helps, i did my own and i knew nothing either :D

Get a Pioneer deal caraudiosecurity! £154 for a 10" box 340w rms Acellerate sub and 380w rms amp + Autoleads wiringkit 4 guage i think.

Sounds bloomin good.

Halfords do fit sub+amp combos, but i think its about £40. Almost a third of your budget.

There are plenty of guides around, especially on ukfn - I thought mine would be hard to fit in my fiesta, but i managed it myself with a guide

That's not completely true.

It's more down to the box design than anything else. Also, a decent, more expensive 12" subwoofer will be as fast (if not faster) as a cheaper 10".

I've got a 12" Directed Audio sub on its way to me, so I'll be able to see how that compares with my old cheapo 10" sub.

wez130, the 12" will be able to drop lower in all cases due to the increase in excursion. Generally, the further the speaker moves, the deeper the bass.

O RLY

I think you mean the further he cone moves the louder it goes it's the larger cone that gives deeper bass :)

That's what I meant to say, just being in work and having people hovering around your desk... it's kinda offputting. :)

But the bigger speaker will definitely give deeper bass, whatever volume you're listening at.

ok ive been looking and found this

click

im told by a friend that its quite good, and all the reviews say its good,

dont realy want front speakers cos i like the music coming from the back, gues i got used to it from my punto,( had crappy front speakers). so if i get some 6x9s and a new headunit, wil i be set?

Good choice with both the amp/sub and head unit :)

10 gauge is a better than the 12 gauge provided with the JBL stuff, and should be able to cope with a single amp.

Don't be tempted to get rear speakers... seriously. Does your car have rear speakers in it already? If so, just use those and get some decent front speakers. I don't even have a sub in mine and I've got the head unit faded to 7/10 on the fronts.

You don't miss the rear speakers at all.

i got 2 rear speakers but only 1 works so i was gonna replace them with some alpine ones to match he sub/amp wasnt gonna spend much on them cos the sub am and headunit coming to £300

can any1 tell me what im looking for in rear speakers and what price is too cheap for them, im trying to get all from same place to saveon postage(car audio direct)
there are couple of alpine speakers on there

these expensive

these middle

and these cheaper

which you think,

thx
