sub/amp

Without knowing what car you have, and what size the rear speakers are... I'd recommend these...

You don't want to spend loads on rear speakers. Save it for the fronts. Also, 6x9's on the parcel shelf are a great way to entice a thief. You want to keep things stealthy and hidden away.

It's also more suprising when people get in the car and can't see any big flash speakers on show.

i was thinking of having a stealth shelf type thing, were u mount em to a piece of wood underneed the parcel shelf so u cant see them, the speakers are only covered by the thin cloth on the slef itself.

as i said earlier i dont realy want front speakers, want the noise coming from the rear

Stealth shelves are ok, but why do you want the sound to come from the rear?

I can't get my head around it. Is it because you're used to sound coming from behind you in your old car? Well, get some good front speakers and you'll see where I'm coming from.

yes in my old car i used only the back speakers cos front were crap.

if i get some 6x9s they will be like £40 max.

the car is a fiesta btw.

Do you think there will ever be a time when people realise that you either have either 6 x 9's or a sub, not both.

this man speaks the truth

if you use 6x9's and a sub you'll drown the sound of the sub out and vice versa, ending up with a not-so-good sounding experience. Look at speakers for the home, 99.9% of the time - in exception of the very cheap midi hifi's, the bass and tweeter is seperate, same with a home AV setup, you have a sub, fronts, rears and a centre in a basic 5.1 setup, and even a cheapish one of those can sound great. it's the same in a car audio setup, you have seperate sources for low end, mid range and high range resulting in a much clearer sound.

Nope.

6x9's have a massive market because of the large amounts of nasty treble they give off... and sub woofers... well, everyone wants to be heard 5 miles away.

My mate had 4 6x9's in the back of his Mk2 Fiesta. If you've seen the pics of it, it was the one with the viper stripes and shopping list :D

like i said at the start i have no clue about any of this, if someone said 6x9s and subs will drown each otherout then i wouldnt get them,

so if i get some of them speakes u mentioned should i just get them in the front and have no rear speakers? or get 2 in front 2 in rear?

They won't drown each other out, but you'll have 3 speakers fighting for the same frequencies and air space. The sub will end up killing the 6x9's.

I'd get a cheap pair of rear speakers like those I mentioned, and put them in the normal positions and then get a decent pair of front speakers.

I've got Infinity's and find them pretty damn good for the money. Do you know how big the standard speakers are?

the ideal setup is components up front, (6.5" mid and tweeter)
keep the rears standard, or buy a cheap pair to replace the none working one - they are dead sound anyway except for rear passengers.
a 10/12" sub in the boot and a amp.

I personally haven't wired my components up to the amp yet and it still sounds great.

i have a JBL 4 channel amp, JBL components and a cheapo 10" sub which i can't really complain about for £40 from halfrauds :D

running it off a kenwood HU (KDC-W534UA) The sound is clear, on dance music, which i listen to most, the bass is controlled and tight which i want. and the components do a much better job than the ford 5x7 standards :D
I had to work to a tight budget, the idea being i bought the sub for £40 then replace the 10" woofer for a fosgate or something later on coz i like the box i got, also had to keep the box small coz of the new baby - pram and all :D
