Subnautica Below Zero (basically Subnautica 2)

Hmm interesting. I wonder what made them change the story and do a U-turn on what they had already made?

I loved Subnautica but I wasn’t too keen on Below Zero’s early narrative. I no longer felt alone in the world upon starting the game and it felt that development was progressing too slowly so I lost track of the game roadmap completely.

Subnautica was one of my favourite gaming experiences, so bought early access to this ages ago...still waiting for completion.
Haven't launched any versions for fear of spoilers, as can't replicate playing subnautica for the 1st time - hope this to be the same

I only looked at the first 5 minutes of the game, but that was a few months ago and it was good, but i am avoiding all other info on the game
until it has been released.. It looks very good though...

Oooh... the original is up there in my top 5 gaming experiences ever, so I've been keeping an eye on this one. Hesitant to get into it while it's still in EA though - Subnautica didn't come up on my radar sonar until it was released (picked it up when it was free on Epic), so I had the completed experience without any of the bugs that other people seem to have encountered.

From anyone who's played both, is it worth picking up Below Zero in it's current state?

YES!

:)

As much as Subnautica is up there with my greatest gaming experiences (even if that second half of the game was a bit less impressive) I don't think it is something that would have the same impact playing again in a subsequent game for me.

I am playing this a bit ahead of the upcoming launch. I am seriously bored with 14hrs of playtime.

Compared to Subnautica this is a great deal easier and I had the blueprints for most of the vehicles in under an hour. I find some of the biome terrain extremely finicky to navigate in my useless Truck. Subnautica's terrain was mostly flat and easier on the eye to navigate I guess due to the Cyclops being in the game, whereas BZ goes a lot more crazy and I can see how the Cyclops just won't work. The devs I believe wanted to move away from the 'moving base' that was the cyclops and I am massively struggling with this concept as I find the truck a bit rubbish to use in general.

I already stumbled across the endgame biome by accident and 'nope'd' the hell out of there when I saw something...

Plot advancement is a bit off too, then again it wasn't stellar in the previous game either. I have been stuck on what to do next on numerous occasions. It would have been nice if the game was a bit more descriptive instead of "Find me on an an iceberg"....what one?! There's a million of em!

The visuals and engine are as superb as ever and I have no issues performance (apart from the antiquated savegame load times) or stability wise.

Agree with the Seatruck being a downgrade from both the Seamoth and the Cyclops.

With all the Seatruck modules, you can do the “mobile base” play style providing you don’t mind taking ages to get anywhere and having to park all the modules somewhere safe before going into any narrow spaces.
