Success beckoning for Steve McLaren

I think that McLaren was given the England job too soon in his career. He's obviously a talented coach, from his time as Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United, to doing well with Middlesbrough to now winning the title with Twente. It's good to see someone British flying the flag abroad and I can only hope that more British managers are given the chance at clubs across Europe because it's good for our image.

Yup, they won 0-2.

Congratulations to FC Twente and Steve McLaren. :)

How on Earth did Ajax not win the title?

That goal tally and goal difference must be close to breaking some sort of record...surely?

Why does everyone hate him so much. His achievements at middlesborough and this club must show some merit. Especially when you looks at both clubs performances before he was there.

I guess its not doing well with england. Very few recent england managers have come out well of the england job. I think only Robson and el Tel are still liked by the public

Well they won their last 14 matches, scoring 50 and conceding just 3 but at the start of that run they already trailed FC Twente and PSV by nine points. FC Twente's run in that time was 11 wins and a draw from the 14 games. There's only so much help you're going to get from murdering teams once you're in that position.

They even destroyed Feyenoord (2-0 and 4-1) to win the Dutch Cup. Everything clicked but just a bit too late.

It is a magnificent achievement for McClaren, not only because its for a team who hadn't won the league title before but because after finishing second last season two of his best players left the club and he had to replace them. Nobody thought they'd do as well this season and nobody believed that for two seasons in a row a club outside of the historical big three would win the title.

On a side note, AZ were unlucky not to keep Feyenoord at bay on the last day.

Well hes left FC Twente to take over at Wolfsburg in Germany.

I wonder if he will take on ze german accent now:p:D

I wish him all the best. He's a bloody good manager but I just think the England job came too soon for him.

Give it a few years when he suceeeds at Wolfsburg as well then the best English clubs will be clamouring for him! Remember this is a bloke who worked for years under Fergie.

Good luck in Germany wally :p

Good luck for him in Germany, Twente were about to lose 2 or 3 of their better players and I imagine Steve knew that next season probably wouldn't have been as kind.

Not sure why he chose Wolfsburg but good luck to him

Probably because they are a better team i suppose ie better players if Twente were going to lose some important players...plus its good for him as experience of more teams in more leagues will make him more attractive to other clubs looking for a manager.

always liked steve . he did great for us even if he was too nice a guy to get rid of some of the rubbish. he made some decent signings. sadly people didnt really realise this till southgate took over and they got to see what a really bad manager looked like !

england job came too soon for him but no one else wanted the job and im sure no one else would have refused that kind of money. he didnt exactly make any massive mistakes there he just had the displeasure of working with a bunch of big egod lazy morons

Indeed. If memory serves me correctly, he was there when they won the treble and while he was at Man Utd, they lost very few games. This was also the same period when they posted their highest premiership points total.
