Not strictly true as you can buy yourself out of any remaining months on the contract early as I have done just recently with my orange contract so I could take advantage of the T-Mob Flext with 25% off line rental for life deal.

Done this loads of times, am doing it with my O2 contract this week, and done it on orange bofore and (although you will tell me you can't) on my CPW O2 contract.
