So having seen this myself recently, what is your opinion of it?

Personally I was impressed, I really was.

I was genuinely impressed at how something so slick, sexy, cool and stylish somehow, beyond all probability, managed to be so damn boring.

It's basically a weird girl-power chick flick, with some trite message about standing up for yourself or something equally droll.

Yes they were hot. Yes it was stylish etc. But I still found myself yawning through most of it.

Also watched this recently and I agree 100%.

From the trailers there seemed to be some resemblance to Japanese Anime, so I had high hopes. But the story ended up being so damn dull.

Hot girls were... Hot (like seriously), just a shame that the story failed.

The story actually has a bit more depth than I gave it credit for initially, however the way it's done requires too much piecing together after viewing, hence it still fails.

It must have looked fantastic on paper;

Crazy Alice style 'loli' main character... Check.
Giant mecha robot... Check.
Zombie Nazi's... Check.
Fire breathing dragons... Check.
Hot girls in skimpy outfits... Check.
katanas, guns, explosions... Check.
Big budget matrix-style special effects... Check.
Etc etc etc.

The writer must have thought he was being so clever. But in practice it's basically just a wishy-washy mish-mash of other peoples ideas.

Shame. Could easily have been so much better.

The soundtrack didn't exactly press my buttons either. I mean 'Bjork'..? Really??? Although I did love the random musical number during the credits. :D

Edit: Also, I may be looking into this too much now, but in the 'brothel' they are all terrified and crying their eyes out when Blue is waving his gun around. Whereas I'm pretty sure that people living with no freedom, and (possibly more importantly) no hope, wouldn't actually be too perturbed by the prospect of a bullet to the head.

Also saw it a few days ago, to an extent as I managed to get half way before nodding off. I agree with the OP about the girl power comments. Even the eye candy couldn't even hold my attention.

Hell I made it through the watching of Far Cry and couldn't manage this!

A vapid masturbatory mess. Couldn't give two hoots about one single character the entire way through and even the action sequences were predictable, if visually impressive.

I'm surprised I actually made it through to the end, tbh.

I think it's a great film, very clever and shows one (of many) coping mechanisms for someone who is abused and has way out. I don't think enough people see past the action scenes and the girls and think that that is all the film is. I disagree and think it's very clever. It would be interesting to see if it wasn't done with such attractive girls and 'tarted' up in the way it is but keeping the overall story.

Pretty much how i felt about it when i watched it a few weeks ago...nice hot looking women but thats about it really.

All style no substance. Snyder is fast becoming the new Bay. And his next movie is Superman!

Couldn't agree more, found myself bored witless by the action sequences. I was interested enough in the story outside of them. But the set pieces were so long and the repeating elements made them a bit of a bore really.

Tried watching it a 2nd time but i have to admit it dragged on a lot which the first time was great it was all new and was learning the plot and everything but 2nd time around i knew it and just isnt really great for multiple viewings. I think i got up to the start of the plan section before stopping it.

Its a good film i really think it is, especially the first viewing, but with that, multiple viewings wasn't great with this i have found.

I watched it fairly recently with a couple of mates and I think the phrase "cheesy as your nan" may have been used. I didn't have very high expectations of it before watching so it didn't bother me too much, it's not a great film but I've seen far worse.

Lots of haters around here

I didn't hate it particularly. I was just slightly perplexed at how such a fool-proof formula still managed to fail. :p

I do however appreciate it's triumphs. Which as you say, are basically it's strengths as a stunningly beautiful "in the background" movie.
