As per title really, there are obvious candidates such as the saxo vtr, cant seem to get anywhere close to that for the money (and be able to insure it, 17 y/o driving for 6 months.)

So, any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Does the 2k include insurance?

Xsara Coupe in the 1.6 8v format is not even really mildly hot tbh. The missus has one and it's nice enough to drive but theres no power unless you rev the nuts off the engine. It's about 90bhp which isn't much really. Go for the VTS if you want something a bit warmer!

The VTR is a 16v, it's also insurable for someone of this age.

306 D turbo - can't believe no has mentioned that yet search "screw mod" to see how fast one of these is ;)

That's because suggesting a D-Turbo w/Screw mod for a 17yr old is downright irresponsible. We all know only the most experienced of drivers can tame the beast.

It's 8v it's bigger brother VTS is a 16v lump.

Thats the 1.6, which sucks.

They do a 1.8 16v VTR. It is Group 11 insurance, does 0-60 in in 9.2 seconds, and has all the goodies the VTS has (Rain sensing wipers, climate control, etc) except ABS. The VTS is a 2.0 16v with 170bhp and Group 16 insurance.

It's the Saxo VTR/VTS where the engine sizes are the same but the difference between the two is that one is 8v and one is 16v.

So what's the difference between lumps if the VTS makes 170, compared to 115?

Isn't group 11 a bit high for 17y/o + 0NCB? (for the 1.8VTR)

Why are you up so late? :p

The 1.8 is just a standard 16v 1.8 litre engine, whereas the 2.0 has... 'stuff'. I can't remember what it is about the 2.0 that allows it to develop 170bhp. It's the same engine as found in the 306 GTi-6.

Depends where he lives - it's dooable in a decent area. Whether it's advisable or not I don't know, could be a tad quick for a newbie, but it's certainly a good warm hatch.

Just got in from the Union :p
