Suggest some films for me to rent...

Oldboy - I downloaded this and forgot to put subtitles in so it was in korean, I didn't understand what was going on but I still thought it was fantastic.

I think you should watch it again with subtitles, you may have a different opinion. (That film is rather messed up).

I watched two films this weekend; Little Miss Sunshine, and The Motorcycle Diaries. LMS was fantastic -- wonderfully shot and really funny and moving. TMDs was a bit dissapointing to be honest - it was good but i was expecting more. I was expecting to learn all about Che Geuvara but it really didnt tell you anything at all of interest. I was expecting to learn all about him but in the end, the film could ahve been about any two people travelling through South America  Not bad, though.

Very highly rated and fairly well known, but often overlooked because of it's age: Dr Strangelove

This is a work of genius, my favourite Kubrick film and Peter Sellers gives a flawless performance. If you thought a film made over 40 years ago couldn't have humour that's relevant today, think again.

Indeed, introduced it to my friends at Uni and they loved it, when I watch it I usually sit there with a grin on my face until the final bit in the War Room class film.

Amores Porres - Based in Mexico City and follows three different stories that are connected through a fatal car crash.

Babel - Four different stories based around the world are connected through a single gunshot in Morocco.

If you liked City of God you probably like both of those.

They sound right up my street, thanks i'll try to get hold of those

I agree with quite a few of the films listed, especially Dark City, Spirited Away, Equilibrium and Memento. I thought Amores Perros and Requiem for a Dream were pretty crap though.

Some recommendations from me:

Infernal Affairs (the film Departed was a remake of - original is better in my opinion)
Dead Man's Shoes (excellent and funny British revenge thriller)
This is England
City of God
Following (by Christopher Nolan - Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige etc - cracking director!)
Garden State
Big Fish
Hotel Rwanda
The Station Agent
Shaolin Soccer
And if you like Spirited Away - try Nausciaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke

I have Lady Vengeance on rental, do you think I need to watch the other two first? They seem pretty much standalone from what I can gather...

I watched them all in order and to be honest after the last one I really couldn't tell if they were linked at all. I don't think they were though, so you should be fine to watch them in any order.

Oh I really like a film I just watched now: D.A.R.Y.L. It's on Sky Movies Family again tomorrow at 12:50 and 20:00 (I watched in on Sky Anytime).

It's quite a slow pace movie, but it's really does make you feel happy. Lots of emotions in this film; you become really attached to the main characters, especially Daryl.

I just went to check the review on rotten tomatoes and was really annoyed at the 33% it got. It's not a well known film, which is why I expect the 2 reviews on the website - one person loving it, one person hating it - have avergaed out at 33%.

If you can appreciate a film for what it is supposed to be about, and not criticise it for something it's not really supposed to be catering for, then you will love daryl.

Regards!
