Suggestions for a first car

Hi all,

17th birthday's coming up soon so It's time to start looking for my first car.

Budget is around £1500, Preferably lower. Obviously needs to be cheap to insure aswell. Suggestions?

Was thinking maybe a Saxo vtr/vts, or am I living in dreamland?

No chance, thats got boy racer written all over it, the insurance would probably be twice the cost of the car
 
Wouldn't say you were in dreamland with the Saxo, but do you have £2000 for insurance aswell as the £1500 for the car?

Maybe in a year or two mate:) I'd look at a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec or something to get a years claim-free driving.
 
Dream on about a VTR, i got £2k on insurance when i quoted for one, and im only paying £1100 for a 306.

Pug 106/306, Fiesta, Corsa (though you would need to be mental to buy one), Punto. If your going for a saxo then it will be a smaller engined one for that insurance price.

Youll probably need more than £1k for insurance at that age unless you are in a very low risk area.
 
I am looking for the same sort of thing for my brother. So far a Nissan Almera is topping the list.

Its a very boy racer car, so its very expensive to insure. I very briefly looked at saxos hence the quotes. A standard 1.1 was £950 to insure, whereas a VTR was £1900 and i dodnt even bother trying with the VTS.
 
as a first car i would even spend £1500 i would get something proper cheap for about £500 and keep it for a year while you get some ncb gotta learn to walk before you can run.

I could spend more on the insurance but the cost of the car would have to be less.

Could you guys perhaps point out some examples on ebay?

I'd rather not be driving around an old rust bucket. But if I could get something fairly decent and cheap to ensure for around £500 then I'd be more willing.

Haha, £500. Find me a decent car that a 17 y/o can insure for £500. LEGALLY! :p
