Suggestions on a 15 Seat managed virus & spam suite?

I've got a copy of NOD to trial for some of our servers, the rest of our stuff all runs Mcafee (which is running great for us).

Don't like Kaspersky, tried it on my home machine once and didn't get on with it, and also discussing AV with a top security chap who does work for Nato and the NSA he said he wouldn't trust Kaspersky at all :)

He actually recommended Sophos.

Sounds like that chap still doesn't trust them commies!

We use Kaspersky, it's actually pretty good, if anything screws up it will be proactive defence.

lol had some interesting discussions with him, and no he doesn't :)

He was off on an interesting exercise the week after instructing on our course that involved something to do with trying to find Russian submarines :)

whats this google thing you speak of?

Google Postini. It's an offsite anti-spam (and if you pay extra can also be used for archiving of email) system. All your email is sent/received through their servers which prevents the spam from ever reaching your servers (in theory!).

It's the same spam system that's used for Google Gmail.

Must say the google thing does look very nice, assuming nod32 doest come with antispam?

as theres only 15 users, doing the google thing for spam would be more cost efective then getting a 3rd party solution

nod32 does have some antispam capabilities, the difference is that the email has to be delivered before nod32 can deal with it...the advantage of these off-site 'software-as-a-service' solutions is that it prevents the mail actually being delivered to your servers in the first place. the same customer we put nod32 in for we also setup with appriver securetide. it was like flicking a switch, immediately over 85% of their entire mail (which was all rubbish) just disappeared. they have just renewed that for another year too. would be daft not to have nod32 + securetide/messagelabs/postini/et al imo.

mmm any idea of the costings for securetide?

Also i noticed the google one charges per client, but we have an exchange server, so how does that work out the per client emails? as some users have multiple addresses, but they are still 1 client? same goes for secure tide :P

If I remember correctly each email can have a further 5 alias's on Postini. It's slightly different if you purchase it through a Google Postini reseller rather than direct (you'd have to ask the reseller how they charge for it).

Installed Sophos SBE yesterday on an ageing eight node SBS2000 setup instead of renewing our McAfee licence.
Best thing I've done for sometime! Instantly noticed performance improvement.

No mention of Trend Worry Free Business Security Advanced? I've got it on a few sites and no complaints, renewal price is appealing (first year is front loaded).
I've inherited a couple of Sophos & Kaspersky sites and wasn't fussed on the centralised management functionality compared to Trend.

Hmm,

Well i think postini is a pretty good deal, and nod32 with remote manager is also a nice price, nad also im used too it :P

sill going to recommend sophos as an alternative though as its probably the second one thats been most recommended.

Will let you know how i get on :)
