Suggestions...twisted horror movies...

"OldBoy" is overhyped to the max, but one of the only films I've ever seen where said overhyping - while you recognise it is indeed overhyped - doesn't act to the film's detriment.

I agree. Ive only watched it once so maybe its better the second time. I havent been bored enough to try again yet

If you really want to be left repulsed, watch Cannibal Holocaust.

I hasten to add that Cannibal Holocaust features some very unsettling scenes including a horrific rape scene and the butchering of live animals. I didn't enjoy it, but it's what you requested... a truly disturbing film.

Only if you get an uncut one, of which isn't available in the UK.

Really enjoyed the original 'Last house on the left', actually hit me more than I thought, considering I expected myself to laugh through it.

I just watched Inside, this film has left me feeling the same as when I watched Martyrs, it's another perfect horror movie. Perfect in the sense that it actually horrified me which is an achievement considering I am extremely desensitised to most I see in movies.

I would recommend that any horror movie fan watch both Inside and Martyrs, regardless of whether you like subtitles or not, it will not in any way detract from the perfection of these movies.

Will ask for martyrs for my brithday this week, but where on earth can you buy inside. Had a look and one big online store has the unrated cut Region 1 dvd only. For inside, I presume it the the film to do with babies and has a person on the front showing their belly with some scissors in it ?

That's the one. You're best off getting the Unrated R1 Dimension Extreme DVD release.

Man bites dog is a GOOD film, but I'd put it in with the OldBoy box, good film but way overhyped.

If you can stomach the rape and murder of the girl in Cannibal Holocaust, and find the live animal slaughter bearable, fair enough, but I think it's extremely harrowing!

It wasn't until after I watched the film that I found out that the animal killings were real. It's a rather nauseating film, almost to the point that it's not a film I'd watch again.

I totally ignored R1 thinking I can't play it on my PS3. Silly me forgot that my XE1 hd-dvd has multi region firmware out there for dvds

Cheers :D

Men Behind The Sun

This is a nasty film, if you are interested I suggest you read about it before you watch it as the story is rooted in truth and I'm not talking about The Haunting in Connecticut type truth. The horror isn't about the special effect which aren't great but really about what men will do to other men and the ruthlessness of war.

Good movie, that. Really makes you doubt your faith (if you have any) in humanity when you see the lengths we'll go to just to kill eachother.

Avoid the sequels like the plague, though (pun intended).

If anyone is concerned, note that MBTS also features animal cruelty in a scene where a cat is thrown into a room full of mice and eaten alive.

having seen the film I find myself doubting the genuineness of that particular scene, it might be real, even if it isn't its pretty distastefull and oddly disturbing considing the rest of the movies content.

It is real. Standards are different when it comes to category III films. The octopus scene from Oldboy, for instance, wasn't cut by the BBFC since in their eyes it represented a "clean, quick kill". The same could not be said for MBTS or Seom, in which the animal cruelty is generally long and drawn-out - hence the region 2 version of Seom was cut, as was the region 2 version of MBTS.

Not sure what you mean. It doesn't fit in with ruthless, emotionless Japanese torturers; rats being burned alive; people having their skin stripped off and shoved inside pressure chambers?

Or maybe you meant you couldn't see the point to it. It was well known that the Japanese would do anything they could wrap their heads round in Unit 731. Some things for experimentation; some to induce power, fear and cruelty; and some just for a laugh.

Its not very convincing to me but I haven't seen a lot of cat torture

I mean I found it very disturbing, slightly more disturbing than a lot of the rest of the film. I was surprised at how much it revolted me.

Yo,

Just watched Rec, and thought it was pretty cool... looking for something along the same lines (creepy horror, supernatural/extraterrestrial beings) any suggestions?

Cheers,

Suman
