I think Spurs have a better chance of finishing 4th this season than last. I think Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City are in a league of their own and the Top 3 is set. The next battle is between Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool and it comes down to injuries and cup runs who will finish where.

I am not that excited at the prospect of spending £60m on another two foreign imports without Prem experience. I think Spurs will suffer if they flood the team with too many players like this. I would much rather spend £50m on Leighton Baines & Benteke. If Spurs bought those two AND kept Bale then I would be getting a bit giddy and looking to challenge for the title with a good start.

You linked to an article that you didn't even read?!

Fine buddy, hoping that they finish in 5th is not humorous at all. I'm sure that with a little luck they will manage it. Are you a Newcastle supporter or just unnecessarily grumpy today?

Come on now, hoping is harmless, but believing is a whole nother story.

Genuinely surprised no one is in for Benteke currently. I can only presume enquiries have been made in the background and a ridiculous price has been quoted.

He signed a new contract in the summer after he handed in a transfer request back on page 40 odd (July).

Was £20m then and no one bit (as it was the start of the transfer window and thought he would remain unhappy), instead he signed a new deal so no one will be able to tempt him till the same time next year.

Genuine question: Do people think Bale and Ronaldo can exist in the same team/lineup ?

Of course they can.

Maybe the more important question is, can you get the most out of them?

It's likely that one, or both of them may have to adjust their game slightly, which will probably have a negative impact on their individual contribution, but to suggest that you can't line up two of the most expensive players in the world in the same team, is a bit ott.

I think that is a young exciting team, Benteke said yonks ago he wouldn't leave. I think in general his transfer request was more his agent saying "okay my client won't leave this summer but pay the man a decent wage ffs" (yes decent in this context is obscene and I'd be incredibly happy with 2k a week let alone disappointed with the 20-30k he was probably on last year :p ).

Benteke is young, he's improving and he's part of an exciting team making a wage 99% of the world can only dream of. If he waits 2-3 years to join a top four club it will be on 150k a week rather than 60k a week. But he's got more chance of becoming an established name and moving to a club as a first team striker, if he moved today I think he'd end up as rotation/back up at any number of top clubs.

It will likely be better for himself and his bank balance if he goes for a HUGE move in 2-3 years rather than a fairly small move now or in the next couple years. I don't think he or Villa want a move just yet. If Benteke has two very good years and a new contract next year as well, Villa will get a payday and Benteke will be able to command a huge wage and a big club.

i'll admit i thought benteke may be a one season wonder but he's hit the ground running. i still don't think he'd suit spurs but a part of me wishes we'd gone higher on our bid.

today's metro picks up on a tweet from lamela's brother yesterday

Tottenham are set to complete the signing of Roma forward Erik Lamela, his brother Brian has revealed.
Spurs have made securing Argentine wonderkid Lamela a top priority in recent days, with the club close to selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid in a £109million deal.
And despite rival interest from Arsenal and Roma reportedly playing hard ball over a fee, the 21-year-old is still set to rock up at White Hart Lane, according to his brother.
‘Erik is more than sure to go to England,’ Brian Lamela tweeted in response to fan.

He was then asked which club Lamela is close to going to, and the player’s brother simply tweeted ‘tott…’ before adding in Spanish ‘I hope this is not translated’.
It’s thought that Tottenham will be paying up to £31million to sign Lamela, with suggestions in the Italian media that he will be handed a six-year-deal.
The signing is seen as key by manager Andre Villas-Boas, who is desperate to offset the sale of Bale with big money arrivals.
The club have already agreed a £30million move for Willian, which should be completed in the next few days, and Lamela will top off their summer recruitment.
Lamela scored 15 goals in 33 matches for Roma last season, and has previously been linked to Barcelona.

and according to the daily express. willian has passed his medical at spurs ...... and is still considering his options. hmmm think sky picked up on it too but it's probably nonsense. i hope.

Would have loved to see Benteke at Arsenal, the guy has some talent, already scored 3 goals this yr and should go onto scoring a bagful of goals for Villa.

Heard hes an Arsenal fan too...go on Wenger make a £30mill bid for him:D, hes proven himself somewhat in the PL.

and re: anelka. people saying he's on compassionate leave and not retiring?

if this is true then sky sports really have become a joke.

Sky sports have now changed their breaking story headline, saying hes been given compassionate leave. I understand the need to be first off the post regarding players and what is happening but FFS wait till you get the proper information rather than just running your mouth off.

Hate/despise the british media and media in general:p
