Wenger's argument is that it is not the price of the player that dictates the quality of the player.... to an extent yes, but USUALLY expensive players are exepensive for a reason!

We are being $%*&ing lied too thats what going on. For years Wenger and now Gazidis are lying to us.

Have a read of this. Now he is saying 'his' words where taken out of context...

Look everyone in the whole footballing world knows what Wenger is like when it comes to transfers. Fact is that he has far too much power when it comes to transfers, i was reading something a few weeks back that alluded to him being in charge of everything ie transfer fee and wages as well. But im not sure how true it is because i didnt see any other articles regarding this.

So him now backtracking on his words is nothing new, i notice Gazidis has been very quiet since he flexed Arsenal's new found financial muscle ;).

Anyhow still have until Mon so i expect something will happen, maybe im being optimistic now but i have this feeling Wenger has a few big signings up his sleeve. He knows that we have to strengthen and for him to completely ignore is frankly inexcusable and if he doesnt then he really needs to go for the sake of Arsenal and their fans.

If he doesnt sign anyone by Monday then he better hope and pray to god that our first team players manage to stay fit for the whole season so we can at least stumble our way to 4th again. Because at best that is what we will yet again achieve if we are extremely lucky that is.

Then maybe just maybe next summer he will go out and spend £200mill ;):p

Reports in Spain are suggesting we're after (and have bid €30m for) Ander Herrera now, I like what I've seen of him...

Think we'll end up with an overpriced Fellaini and Baines, but we're better with them, especially as we've kept Rooney and can possibly sort him out.

AH sounds promising (although I havent seen anything of him "live")

If £26m was "derisory" then £50m has to be classed as "over-optimistic" at the very least :D

The only bad thing about spurs signing so many (hopefully) top players is that some of our young'uns who look really promising may not get a look in.

Carroll and Holtby were sensational last night. It was against a pap team but their play was actually a cut above our bruiser midfield in terms of guile and craft. I really want to see more of them.

Coubally and Coulthirst also deserve more chances. Harry Kane has pretty much blown his shot. He is just not up to scratch and any game time he gets is purely so that levy can charge some sap club £2-5m for a "premiership" prospect.

The comments about Spurs spending the Bale cash are bizarre. Bale is more than likely to go but the idea that we are dependant on him going is obviously nonsense. Spurs is an exceptionally well managed club and the idea that £90m of exposure (40% of what Lewis and Levy paid for the club) would be taken on is illogical

Firstly, no third party lender would provide interrim finance on any terms relating to a Bale sale as the Bale is hugely overvalued, mortgages would then have to be arranged over other assets and this all tales time to get in place. Secondly, Levy is not so much of an idiot to assume that he can spend and rely on RM coming up with the cash. It could only be the ballsiest play on the history of finance to take on £100m of exposure based on sales proceeds deriving from a club backed by the Spanish government!

The only sensible conclusion is the money has come from elsewhere; whether that be the low net spend over recent transfer windows, outside investment or the new tv money. Or a combination of all three. Alternatively the RM deal was locked in place 90 days ago and all this is a charade to allow us to do business without inflated prices; Bale going on strike is all part of the act!

Finally the comment about the Soldado offer being upped after a bale bid being received; it could also have been a demonstration to bale that we were serious about making big signings and that the future was bright if he chose to stay.

By all accounts we're in negotiations with both Lisbon and PSG for Illori and Sakho. The UK press are reporting that we want Illori and Sakho is seen as a back-up option but reports in France & Italy say that Sakho's almost a done deal.

Yeah but that's been case for weeks with them, also were linked to shay given this morning which to me is a pointless signing it shouldn't be our priority if true

Fairly obvious, isn't it?

Its pretty 9bvious that moyes is trying for the low hanging fruit but still failing quite miserably

Those two are probably two of Everton better players. What incentive do they have to sell them right now? And are they really special players made of unobtanium thatwe can't get anywhere else I just can't believe it to be true.

It does completely highlight moyes lack of ambition though if we are still 3 months later looking at these . Note that barca or real are not interested nor are bayern city or dortmund come to that. So how come?

I never thought I'd say it but possibly Tummy is the only person that's had some sort of sane view on our transfer window.

Jesus christ some of you lot.

Arsenal's new striker!!!!

Blog.

(So basically, that is it then. Two free transfers for the summer. He has settled for Sczeny andFabianski for N01 and our 'new' striker is Bentner!)

What a depressing summer for Arsenal....

No it hasn't. This is the first serious link to Sakho and even with Illori we bid early in the summer but Lisbon were supposedly demanding £12m for him so we walked away. It's only in these last couple of days that talks are said to have resumed.

As for Given, I disagree that it's pointless. Brad Jones is useless - we need a better 2nd keeper. And do you really think making a couple of calls to Villa & Given will harm our chances of signing a CB? Just because it's a priority it doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. There's enough time in the day to make bids for more than 1 player :)

I disagree about the Sakho link weather it was serious or not a few weeks ago the cb issue should have been sorted allot earlier. Well it's very rare keepers get injured and whilst I agree brad jones is quite a poor player he isn't the worst in the world, I'm not saying we shouldnt sign a better back up as like you said we should I just don't think it should be our main objective. We also need a attacking player for left side to replace downing both positions I think need sorting first

Yeah, but teams play 4 comps now, you need two decent keepers, Jones isn't up to scratch. He hasn't been for a while..

Re Sakho there's been speculation but until recently PSG haven't been open to selling. In fact the reports still say PSG don't want to sell but will listen to offers if he doesn't agree to a new deal by today.

As for the CB issue as a whole, I don't think it's as straight forward as you say. I think it's clear that the club wanted to replace both Coates & Skrtel and targeted Illori and Papadopoulos. Neither deal could be agreed early in the summer so we sat tight and hoped/expected to be in a stronger bargaining position come the end of the window. There was no urgency to sign a CB, especially while Coates & Skrtel were still at the club - that's changed with the injuries to Coates & Toure though.

In an ideal world you do your business at the start of the summer but it doesn't always work like that. There was no way we were going to pay £18m for Papadopoulos when he's still not recovered from a knee injury from last November that was only meant to keep him out for a couple of weeks (and since our interest he's suffered further set-backs in his recovery), nor were we going to pay £12m for Illori who's barely played a senior game and only having 1 year left on his contract.

And while Jones might not be the worst number 2 in the world, he's not far off. We need a better 2nd choice keeper and there is no reason whatsoever why signing Given will prevent or even slow down deals for other players.

Downing never played left side, he was always on the right (shows how bad he was really). Aspas is Downing's replacement.

There have been some weak links to Sakho, I just wish the club had gone for a cb (like they apparently wanted) before the injury to Kolo, why not go for Aiderwilde (whatever) earlier? Why wait until we get an injury, it's retarded.

We have Agger, Skrtel, Toure, Coates, Wisdom and Kelly at the club and you're asking why we didn't sign a CB that the club reportedly didn't/don't even want?

We weren't and even with the injuries to Coates and Toure (who could possibly be fit for Sunday according to reports) still aren't in a position where we need to panic and either pay over the odds getting the player we want or signing 3rd or 4th choice targets.

It's truly incredible how some supporters only seem happy if the club is spending money. It doesn't matter who they sign or how good they are, as long as they're spending (and the more the better) then they're happy.

God, I'm starting to sound like Wenger. I better go to work.
