Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

Yet Chelsea matched it, and it's £75m with addons. He was pretty much set on going there and we signed him instead.
Probably about as true as Arsenal bidding £120m for an 18 year old.

Not a great of choice for him, the former club who never gave him a chance or the former manager who never gave him a chance.

£75m with rumoured £15m adons and £15m to pay Rooney to go in other direction.

Hardly puling it out of the bag. Sounds more like tricked into paying. Lol

Don't worry the deal looks a steal now Walker went for £50m :p

Really? the last big player you signed was Suarez and that was 6 years ago now.
TBH he wasn't a big player when he signed for Liverpool, he became a big player when he played for Liverpool and went for a lot of money to Barca.

The last big player Liverpool signed was Torres from Atletico Madrid.

Not sure why thats relevant given that he has now proved he can score 20+ goals consistantly for the last 5 years , and he is still only 24

(only one of three people that have done that in the same time frame)

Massive step up for him either way, a place to really challange himself

Not sure its even £10m for Rooney , Everton will still be paying £5-£7.5m

Given everyone had thought he was going to Chelsea, it caught everyone off gaurd. Surely thats the definition of "pulling it out of the bag"?

Prices are always going to be higher moving between the same league . but it was the most important transfer to get over the line given how short of goals Utd were even with Ibra available.

I dont think anyone has really done well, even City havent got all their top targets (I think they were after Alves before he chose elsewhere), but Silva was a brilliant signing - not sure about the gk just yet who is completely untested at this level

Depends how you define big, we have had firminho since suarez.

Not sure how you classify Firminho as a big signing (not disparaging him, but he cant be classified as a big signing at all)

Did they?? I don't think they did because it's a stupid amount of money for a player that is nowhere worth that much imo.

What I was more surprised with is not the amount of money Utd paid for him. But the fact that he wants to play under Mourinho, when Mourinho was the one who didn't want him originally at Chelsea and had him shipped out quickly.

Yes, they did. Nowhere near worth that much? The second best striker in the most expensive league in the world who is still relatively young? Look at other transfer fees for perspective. Obviously as ever it will rest on how well he plays for us.

In the current market it doesn't seem that expensive to me, but ultimately it doesn't matter, it's easily affordable. I thought Chelsea were going to pay £100m for him and I didn't think it was absolutely mental then either.

Whether you want to believe it or not, by all accounts he was Chelsea bound and then we stepped in and signed him, much to Conte's fury.

So what is then? Suarez wasn't known to the world prior to us getting him. Big signing would be an established star who most people know e.g.wheb suarez left us, torres, ozil, Ronaldo, di Maria etc

Am I missing something? Have you included pre-season games and internationals in this? Quickly checking wiki, he's managed 20+ goals for the last 3 seasons.

Not sure how you can compare Firminio before you got him to Suarez / Torres / Ronaldo

He may well come good but he is nowhere near that level, certainly wasnt a household name before Liverpool's interest became apparent

Look at Rooney's page in Wiki and it says he only has 183 goals for Utd....not sure where the other ~70 went (his official total is 253 hence the outright record)

Several papers seemed to suggest during the transfer Lukaku had scored 20 goals (club goals, not just EPL) a season for the last 5 seasons

Ok, well he hasn't scored 20+ for the last 5 seasons. He scored 17 and 16 in his two seasons on loan prior to signing for Everton on a permanent deal.

Either your missing my point or I'm not understanding you.

I'm not for once second comparing firminho to any of them there all above him by far.

You said we haven't had a big signing since suarez. Suarez for us when we got him was not a big signing or a known entity.

To me a big signing is when suarez left us for Barcelona they got a big known player. Chelsea got Torres all be it not working out. Madrid got Ronaldo from you again big sighing known player all of them had achieved above and beyond expectations in regards to goals, assists, skill etc

Not even all PL goals. Most importantly zero for Chelski.

I'm sure he will do fine but I'd be surprised if he becomes a consistent 20 PL goal scorer. Which I would expect for that price tag.

Quite aside from the fact that the 253 is right there on the wiki page and includes ALL his goals for Utd. He was there for 13 years, he broke 20 league goals twice, he wasn't a massively high scorer. He only went above 14 league goals 4 times in 13 seasons, how is he going to score 253 league goals.

He would need to score pretty much 20 goals every single one of the 13 seasons to reach 253 goals in the league alone, does that remotely sound like Rooney?

Where did I suggest it was 253 league goals? I didn't so nope - BaZ87

In the top right hand corner of the wiki page it suggests that he only scored 183 goals at Utd, only significantly below that does it have an asterix /cross saying its only league goals (where there is no asterix/cross on the line itself)

This thread has turned into a complete mess. Might be worth shutting it on Saturday nights so people can deal with their drink better...crikey.

Onto transfers...several reports saying Keita will a Liverpool player by Thursday. I don't usually buy these types of reports because let's face it...throw enough of these types of posts out then you'll get one right eventually however there does seem to have been some movement on this one.

Honestly haven't seen a load of him however from what I'm reading he could be a massive asset for us. Vvd,Keita,Robertson,Solanke and Salah would be a stunning window.
Fingers crossed.

The only place on wiki it said 183 was for league goals alone and on wiki it already says 253.... so where did you say that, right there where I quoted you.

Lets say I think Henry has 180 league goals for Arsenal and on wiki it says 150 league goals and 203 goals total, then I tell someone I don't know what happened to wiki, it says he only has 150 league goals, the other 50 are missing.... when it's right there in another column, what is the logical conclusion. That a grown man(questionable from your posting style) can't read a simple table, or that he believed that where the number 150 was I believed THAT number should be ~200?

Just had a look at fantasy.premierleague.com and apparently Rooney is the most picked player overall with over 30% ownership?!

That's madness. He won't play that many games, he will play like his fat potato self soon enough even if he starts well. How much is he in comparison to other big names?
