How does one accidentally detach a retina?

Edit: Ah, forget it. I should read the thread before I post.

My friend Chloe detatched one of her retinas last week doing pretty much nothing. She's quite short-sighted, and with the long-term strain it just 'went'. She's had to have her other eye frozen so it dosnt do the same thing while she some sort of band fitted to the detatched one!

You never heard of lens cleaner? I've had mud dust etc on my HJ's and a bit of lens cleaner and a microfibre cloth leave them looking good as new ;).

Tried all of them dude but to no avail, shes really went to town on them. I could send them to oakley and get them lenses replaced but cant be bothered and plus they are going to charge an absolute fortune when i can easily go and get another pair of glasses.

You have to be real careful with cheap sunglasses, if they don't give proper UV protection, dark lenses will cause your pupil to let in more light and hence cause more damage!

bet they cost £200 in the UK aswell

Not really, looking at ebay prices they are selling for about £130 with postage and packaging...again dunno if they are real or fake but they look real to me..

Other than ebay, the prices are £150 for those glasses, still not that bad.

still 50% more than the US price equiv

My girlfriend gets Prada sunglasses at trade prices. £80 instead of £300-450 which is an awesome mark up. I really liked my oakleys they were fantastic for taking glare away, I was scared to sit on them or break them though which meant they got left in my drawer all summer.

It's very good, if you go to an opiticaians you'll pay >£300 for those.

What's all this rubbish about buying Oakleys for the superior protection? Is that really what you thought about when choosing them? And what about all the people who walk around without sunglasses on at all? Do their eyes burn out?

I *think* he meant that you get better vision through decent sg's like Oakley's than with the £2 rip-off jobs.

It was one of the main considerations I had when purchasing mine. As far as protection and visual clarity go, it's hard to beat Oakleys for the price. I always used my Ray Ban Aviators when I was flying but I find myself using the Oakleys more and more often as my eyes are less tired at the end of a flight. Protection is a big factor when flying too, because you're a few thousand feet further up and the glare from cloud and water at altitude can be strong enough to temporarily blind you for a matter of minutes. I've found the Oakleys excellent, my eyes can work for longer without becoming tired.
