Sunroof on an E92? Yey or nay?

One of the few downsides to my 3-series is it's lack of sunroof. Not really for cooling, but circulating fresh air and having a nice, mild breeze. And to let out cig smoke so I don't have to have my windows down on motorways.

Also so I can stick my head out of it like a little kid and drive full pelt! :D

The 2.0 4 pot doesnt suit him nor does it suit the car.

Out of interest, have you driven a car with the N43 engine? Or was it the N46 in that E90 2.0i you had on borrow?

I've heard of people refuse cars because of a lack on sunroof, but never because it had one

I've always had a sunroof since my first car and dearly miss it in my current one. I also never used it for cooling - I just liked to feel the wind, hear the engine and look up at the sky now and then :D

Oh and I don't care what engine you pick, I wont have to drive it.

Fox will be pleased to hear I've just put a deposit down on a 320D instead. There were a few left afterall. No sun roof though after all that, even though I'd actually quite come round to the idea of one :)

Good, the 320d makes more sense than the 320i.
Might even be marginally quicker, too.

oh, and TTIUWP ;)

I had a loaner 320d for a couple of weeks and it wasn't bad at all really.

More details of car, colour, options, pics etc?!

Hmmmm, seems quite a lot of money for a 320d with no options and even cloth seats? I recently bought a 530i from Sytner but went for one they had in Nottingham because it had all the options I wanted - they sent it down here for me.

Compared to say these it seems overpriced:

325i for 2K less with leather, heated seats and auto:

325i with leather, bluetooth and 18 inch wheels:

335i for the same price, enough said

If you're happy then fine but I think you could get a lot more for your money and Sytner will return the deposit so it's not too late. Don't settle for the first car you see at your local dealer. :(

I think the 325i you posted was a better bet.
18k and no leather is a bit of a disappointment in my books.

Seems well overpriced to me, hope the OP got a very good discount on that.

I paid less than that for a similar aged 335i with fewer miles and a lot more options.
That was nearly a year ago now and I know the used car market has been funny recently but not that much!

That does seem somewhat pricey for a 3 year old base spec car.

Smoker package means it'll reek of fags too.

:(

I think smoker package is an option you delete rather than add isn't it? Most AUCs I've seen seem to have it.

It doesn't say it was deleted in that spec. If I saw that spec I'd assume it had the smoker's package, and would be hugely offended if it didn't.

:)

Smoker's package is an ashtray and a cigarette lighter as opposed to a cubby hole and a 12v cap.

As for the car itself, it's not overpriced, it's just that 320ds depreciate less than 335is. Therefore they are nowhere near as good value for money.
I wouldn't be spending anywhere near that much on a car with no options but if the OP doesn't want leather or sports seats or sat nav or heated seats or anything from a plethora of available options then so be it.

Not something I'd do, but each to their own.
At least if he changes his mind in the next few days he should be able to get his deposit back :)

You misunderstood I think - I meant I think it's an option that comes as standard. You can go for the non-smoker package but you have to specify that as it's not the default. Those Germans like to smoke. ;)

Maybe I should have included a 320d or two then:

1k cheaper, better colour*, leather:

1k cheaper, M sport, leather, heated seats, better colour* (more miles though)

*better as in value wise, of course colour is a subjective thing

Ah, I see.

I thought it was something fancy to assist you in smoking in the car. Not just an ashtray and lighter.

:)

I'll be paying 17.9 for it with the ubiqutous full tank of fuel. May have been able to screw them down a bit more but being me I simply can't be bothered messing about. Not massively fussed about leather tbh. I was never really interested in the M Sport because of the 19" wheels and run flats and the risk of fillings falling out and that. Extra years warranty at the mo too, though that would apply to any of the cars linked by Wicksta of course. All in all I'm happy with the choice.

Going back to the OP I have sunroof on my E92 and find it useful to let the heat out of the car when it's been parked out in the sun as it's quicker than waiting for the AC to cool the inside down, if the car is already cool inside I leave the roof closed and just use the AC.

On warm days (not really hot) I like to give the AC a miss and just open the windows and the sunroof and let the wind blow through the car

So buy a boring car then. Don't buy a performance coupe without the performance.

What about a nice Honda?

The M3 is the performance model, the others are just regular BMW's that do not require a sporty engine because that is not their main forte
