I'm not worried about it being harmful to users, U238 has a half life of 4.5 billion years but if you have 10^16-10^17 bits you will expect a few of the atoms to decay over a year, potentially corrupting data.

There is no way to stop atoms undergoing radioactive decay (it can be speeded up but by the by).
