Superman: Legacy

Watched the trailer and it looked terrible!! I've seen better AI footage.

How some people replying to the trailer on Twitter are praising it as the next best thing well....

I am surprised its using the theme tune from Richard Donner movies. Thought they were going for a clean start to dissociate themselves from past attempts. I guess it does makes sense using the the positives from past movies.

I fear that tonally, this is going to be a mess.

It looks like it's going to be one those films that looks silly and has a lot of silly things going on, but also wants to be serious, which is very difficult to pull off successfully.

I just hope that it doesn't have too much Guardians of the Galaxy seeping into it, but the big spacey/glowing blue font used for the writing on the trailer doesn't fill me with confidence....
The font emulating and looking similar to that of the original Reeve movie.

I personally love what they've done with the theme in the trailer.

Already loads better^

This isn't perfect as its just someone quickly editing parts of the original JW score onto it. However imagine a properly cued up/scored version of this trailer using the original orchestration/themes etc.

The original is like some trailer composer with no imagination went "Hm, Superman but a modern version...lets just play the superman theme on an electric guitar and then do some big orchestra hits of the basic chords"

I wouldn't say loads better. I love the JW theme and score but I don't feel it goes with anything else in it's original version. I feel it needs updated to suit what it's being used on. Like when the put the theme on MoS trailer. It just didn't feel right.

It's the same with that trailer I just don't feel it suits. The new version really works well on that trailer personally.

you're going to hate what comes with the film then - John murphy is very much an electric guitar and synth kind of guy.

What Gunn did with Rocket Raccoon was special. I don't know what the deal is with Krypto in the comics, but feel as a character it might be quite limited and will struggle to get some sort of personification into it other than it being a dog that can fly.

I think I'm struggling with the dog more than anything else in the trailer, sure he was in some of the comics but he was as dodgy premise even then.

It just looks awkward to me and a bit too silly, and I've had way more than enough of Marvel-esque/redditor style humour.

If they're smart with krypto, they'll tie it into a cross promotion with humane associations, pet adoptions and a reminder that a dog is for life and not for christmas; there's a lot of positive guerilla marketing that you can do around a Superman film that will generate a positive buzz. I know that the Will Reeve agreed to do a cameo in the film for a small fee and an agreement to use material to promote the Christopher and Dana Reeve foundation. I have no idea when that's coming out though.

Film looks promising, but there is an awful lot that seems to be going on.

I don't think it'll be that complicated.

The Kaiju stuff can be ignored. It'll be early on, as a means of establishing Superman's power.

The core of the plot will centre around accountability and Superman. Best guess is Superman intervenes on the wrong side of a foreign war (there are references to Boravia invading someone in the trailer + the scene with the flag). Maybe something goes wrong and Superman is blamed, bringing him into disrepute. But, ultimately, nobody can hold him to account as he is too powerful.

Lex unleashes "Ultraman" (Bizarro) to reign Superman in. There's plenty of shots of him in the trailer.

I'm curious as to Mister Terrific's role, as he apparently has the largest role of the supporting cast. It looks like he, Guy Gardner and Hawk Girl are in the employ of Stagg Industries. So maybe Mister Terrific is the one who rebels and works to uncover the truth?

And there's basically nothing to go on regarding Metamorpho in the trailer.
